Issues with data dropping during mobile hotspot/tethering

have any of you tired flashing the latest modems?

are any of you rooted? if you are make sure your RUIM / SIM - NV is set to RUIM / SIM this was causing my problems when tethering

where do you find that setting? My note 2 is rooted using cleanrom ace 4.2.5

For what it's worth, my tethering still does this constantly! Drives me insane! The 4g seems to just turn off and then in again. Stick rom, running apex launcher, and Pdanet + /Foxfi for tethering (full paid version) and have the latest update, not thinking this was fixed. Oh well... Hope everyone else is fairing better than I.

My phone does this sometimes. It will be connected for a while and then it will drop the connection. The only way to some it is to reboot the phone which is pretty annoying.

I now have a note 2, traded my s3. same friggin problem and I am rooted using cleanrom ace which unlocks native tethering. This HAS to be a problem with jellybean. I never have bluetooth on

It is. I never had this problem when I had ics

I have the exact problem. While hot spot is on, my data goes on and off. BUT... It's only on touchwiz roms. 4.2.2 AOKP, CyanogenMod, Liquid Smooth all work flawlessly. I've also tried every TW ROM I could find and no matter which I use, the data drops while using hotspot. Mean Bean, Clean ROM and Jelly Beans all have the problem. Although I can't say why, I'm confident it's TW. I've even tried unrooted, stock TW. Even with the folder issue of jumping between 4.1 and 4.2 my weekdays are spent on Jelly Beans and evenings/weekends on Liquid Smooth. I need s-pen features for work and hot spot for home. It's a pain but I've found no other solution. Drives me crazy! I'm tired of organizing my storage and the twice a day backup/restore. I'd love to find a fix...

You've confirmed it for me... Not a jelly bean thing but a touchwiz thing. Run AOKP, Liquid Smooth or any AOSP ROM and you'll be good... If you can handle the change.

That's definitely a lot of flash/restore, configure, and test work. Thanks for doing this as it likely was not a trivial time investment. Glad that you and others appear to have found a workaround, though not good if one has to go to a custom ROM to fix - unless folks are wanting to go that route anyway.

Just sharing a datapoint. Was out all last week on business and the conference wide WiFi went down for an extended time and even when it worked was not always reliable. Same for the hotel. So, I fell back on the Mobile Hotspot. Used it multiple times a day for 5-15 minute periods. Worked well. Granted, I'm running CleanROM 6.0 R2, although not sure if any tweaks or fixes for Mobile HotSpot are in that ROM. Wonder if the issue is still being triggered by more than one device attached to the HotSpot, a usage duration, or some combination?

is there a good step by step tutorial for flashing AOKP? I have a mac so I don't think I can use Odin to unlock my bootloader? (it might be already unlocked?) I've already made a backup with airdroid and downloaded rom manager but I don't want to brick my phone.

My best guess on this matter has to do with LTE enabled devices.

Let me explain why.

I work for Bell Canada and one of the perks has been demo hardware. In your settings under mobile networks you will see the option for switching between LTE and GSM and in the case of the SIII before Jelly Bean you could choose to lock the network to HSPA. No HSPA phone I have ever owned ever had a problem with this, but ever since LTE switching that is enforced to happen automatically on its own I have seen this issue occuring.

My best theory? Your phone is in the background seeking a better connection via LTE or a closer tower and because of this it drops the tethering option while it searches for a stronger signal but has no automatic "on" function for the tethering when no other signal becomes available.

I'd like to see if other people are experiencing this the moment their phones drop to two bars.

I can't seem to get my Nexus 7 to connect to my tethering, just figured it was the nexus. I'll try using another wifi device, though I'm on Cricket technically runs Verizon..

Since the update yesterday, my data hasn't dropped with hotspot. Anyone had any since the latest update?
