Issues with MD4

Just had an issue with my s3. The issue was the talk back feature some how turned on and it was very difficult to turn it off. The feature won't let you scroll through screens or anything. But I somehow managed to turn it off. Has anyone else had this problem?

Let me guess, you're using Lightflow and the stock Touchwiz UI?

There's been a long standing bug in how Lightflow and TW interact. I ran the two together for about a month without issues (on an earlier ROM), and then suddenly the problem started up. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to what triggers it. LF says it's a bug in TW, Samsung doesn't say anything. The best way to get rid of it is to use an alternate launcher. I switched to Nova, and decided I like it better than TW anyway.

Another option is to disable Google TTS and Samsung TTS, but if you do that Google Now won't talk to you, and the navi app won't read street names.

There is a trick to navigating the screens when Talkback is on:

Talkback is hard to turn off, because it affects how the system responds to touches. A single tap just reads what it is you're tapping on. To actually tap a button, you need to wait until the phone shuts up, then single tap it to set the focus, and then double tap the button or item you want to tap. In order to scroll a screen, you need to use two fingers.

So you have to wait for it not to be talking, then tap, wait, double tap to select settings, use two fingers to scroll down to Accessibility, tap, wait, double tap Talkback. Tap, wait, double tap the "off" button. Then wait, tap the OK button, wait, and double tap the OK button.

Whew! I think I've got all that right.

Thanks now I know how to turn it off. I don't understand how it turned on by itself. It was weird.

Everything seems to be fine. Keyboard lag is better but still not as good as it was when I first got the phone. Only thing is I noticed my battery is draining much faster than before. I know usually the first day or two it's bad then gets used to the update... I will wait one more day to see if it improves. Will keep ya posted.

So I mentioned this is a previous post that I was having trouble with the talk back setting. Well it happened again. It seems every time I restart my phone or take the battery out and start my phone up again the talk back setting keeps turning itself on. Does anybody know of a way to keep it turned off? I hate this setting.

Quick Question on the 4 update....

I get the cursor now all over my phone. How do I shut it off? It is probably an easy answer, but I am stumped. Thanks!

The only issue I had was with Superuser and SuperSU. Skunkape told me a long time ago that can both be on the phone without any issue, and they were fine, Superuser is part of the CWM Root. With this update they no longer play together, after every boot they needed to be installed, so I checked out SuperSU in the Play Store and it states it works alone, so I froze Superuser and no longer have any problems, SuperSU was installed as part of the getting Trev E's Wifi Tether to work, don't remember why, but I like it.

I'm not sure if this is what you're seeing, but go into developer settings and make sure "Show touches" and "Show pointer locations" are unchecked. If they are unchecked, try checking them, backup out of settings, then going in and unchecking them again.

Two questions: Are you using Lightflow? And does the phone actually start talking after a reboot, or is it just the hand showing up in the notification bar?

If both answers are yes, instead of messing with Talkback to get rid of the hand, turn Lightflow off and back on (in the Accessibility options.

Otherwise, are you using Lightflow and the stock Touchwiz launcher?

If so, I think there are only three ways to keep it from coming back: Get rid of Lightflow; Turn off Google TTS and Samsung TTS; Use a 3rd party launcher, like Nova. I use Nova, and while I get the talkback hand in the notification bar after a reboot, I don't get it actually talking to me.

If you're not using Lightflow, I have no idea.

I don't know what light flow is. I'm not rooted if that's what your asking. Yeah the phone would start taking after reboot. As for launcher I'm using go launcher. I went to app manager and disabled it, but I'm still getting the hand icon telling me it's on even though it's not. I don't know how to get rid of it.

Odd. LIghtflow is an app that gives you more control over your notifications using the LED, vibration and sound. It has nothing to do with being rooted. I've only seen this talkback issue show up on phones where Lightflow is installed.

In Settings / Acccessibility, is the toggle at the top right of the screen set to on or off? Unless you need it for something specific, make sure that's off.

Meyer,
Here's a link to a conversation between app developers (lightflow and others) and Samsung developers about the talkback issue. Thought you might be interested.

Thanks. If their "fix" is in Sprint's MD4 release, they've actually made the problem worse, not better. If by next release they mean 4.2, then I guess we'll have to wait for a while.

I'm having the TalkBack "issue" - it's actually more of an annoyance. I'm rooted, don't use Lightflow, and use Nova Launcher. It just bugs me that the hand shows up after a reboot (I've been having some crash issues lately), and I have to go turn TB on then off to get it to go away.

ETA: hm. Read the linked thread on Samsung's forums - I *do* use NoLED...

ETA2: well, per the recommendations from the NoLED FAQ, I disabled Samsung Talk-To-Speech. I also went in and froze (Titanium Backup) the TalkBack app. The hand still shows up on reboot, but I can get rid of it by toggling the NoLED accessibility service on and off - at least I don't have to mess around with double taps in TalkBack now. Still annoying, and I would like for it to be fixed.

Kuoirad, before you disabled TTS were you actually getting the speech, or just the hand? I have TTS enabled, use Nova, and all I get is the hand. toggling NoLED will probably resolve that issue even if TTS is left enabled.

Yeah, Samsung's got a definite bug here.

Just the hand. Like I said, just an annoyance to me.

Ok so I found what was making it do that and I even got the hand icon off for good. I went accessibility and scrolled down to services and turned off go launcher notification. And now it stays off. So if your using a launcher and you have its notifications turned on you will have to turn the it off.

I just got the ota this morning and can no longer swipe to call a contact... swiping from right to left brings up messaging just fine just not to call
not rooted all stock

I'm using Nova, and it doesn't have a notification option, either in Accessibility or Application manager. :( Oh well, not a real big deal. I don't reboot all that often.
