So I don't know why, but the issue for me seems to have resolved itself. I had powered off my watch at work out of frustration and when I came home I dropped it on the charger. Since I had done a factory reset, wifi was turned back on on the Moto 360 and it connected to my network. I only found that out now when I come upstairs and noticed the watch was on. I picked it up off the charger and played around with it and it's working perfectly. I turned wifi off but it wouldn't connect to the Droid Turbo 2, so I restarted both the phone and the watch, they connected fine and now everything seems back to normal.

The only thing I can think of is somehow the watch got what it needed while connected via wifi and that's resolved the problem with the phone connection and Google Play services. I have automatic updates turned off on my phone and I don't see an updated version of Android Wear so I don't think anything changed on the phone. It's all pretty strange.

I had opened a ticket with google and they came back with there was an issue which they resolved on their side... So factory reset and re-pairing the watch should resolve this issue for everyone now i guess.

However, I am still have issues with the sensors.. Specifically with the Linear and Gyroscope sensors. Guess no one is willing the install sensor box for wear app and help me test :(

So is it safe to install the updates now?

Also when it comes to updating. Is it better to just update the watch from the watch, or is it better to uninstall android wear from the phone, unlink the watch and factory wipe the watch to have it reset and install the latest update?

I know the second option might seem overkill, but would it be more thorough to do?

Can anyone confirm that Google has fixed the issue? I installed an old version of Android Wear. The one from 4/21 as mentioned earlier and it works, but some of the newer features and apps don't work with that old of a version... Would love to update and have a $350 watch that works properly again!

I just bought a 360 2nd gen. I keep getting the Google Play services not installed error message. Text messages work sometimes and sometimes they don't. Emails very sporadic. Just returned the watch and they're sending me another one. Doesn't sound like it's the watch.
 
I just wanted to add to my post from last night. The problem is still Android Wear. There was a new release on 12/3 or 12/4. It didn't fix the problems. People are still having stability problems, problems connecting and disconnecting. Messages come across sporadically. Battery life has gone down dramatically. We keep getting the message that "Google Play Services needs to be installed for Android Wear to work" but it's already installed. It seems like the worst problems are with the Moto 360 but that could be because they have sold the most of them. There is no word on when there will be another release of Android Wear but people are VERY UPSET. These are all things that I have experienced on my new Moto 360 2nd gen so I returned it to Best Buy before I realized it was software and not the phone. I had called Motorola support and they didn't have a clue. Best Buy is sending me another one since they didn't have the model I wanted in stock.
 
I'm sorry to hear your having these issues, I'm not having them with my gen 2. So matey your next watch will be ok.
 
So, I start to have these problems yesterday or 2 days ago. After google play services error (same as lvmymoto had - same screenshots), my watch was disconnected from phone, even if I removed watch it wasn't recognized by phone - I had to Factory reset my watch. Should I contact Amazon, or it is just because of software?

Im using moto360 2nd with Galaxy s6.
