Guys, I think I found a way to get lollipop on nexus 5 before the official update...according to softchamp, we can "download factory images from Google’s Nexus website" ... I will try do upgrade my nexus on my own tomorrow, because I am a bit busy right now. If someone else has already succeded, please let su know.

Does installing the image mean I won't get ota updates?

No, it does not mean that. As long as you don't make any changes to system files, you will be able to get OTA just fine (though, why would you want to wait for OTA? lol! Just get the OTA zip and flash away - as you are thinking about doing now)
