It was only a matter of time

HTC introduces larger One Phone, with fingerprint sensor to unlock phone | CTV News

HTC one max copies and enhances iPhone 5s' finger sensor thingy. You'll be able to open one of 3 different apps depending on which finger you use to unlock it if you want.

Copy? Like Apple stole the Fingerprent Sensor from the Motorola Atrix? Don't know why you're making such a big deal, smartphone makers copy each other all the time

Where did you get the idea that I'm making a big deal? All I said was we all knew this was coming and here it is, with a new feature added on. Whadya think about it?

It's funny how people say copy when things like a fingerprint scanner have to have been in development for months lol. Or they give credit to the wrong people like apple when it was Motorola first on smartphones...

Its funny how people take such offense to these small things. If apple hadn't taken the idea from the Motorola, the max wouldn't have the scanner most likely. When moto didn't no one gave a crap. Now apple does it and everyone will start doing it

Nobody is taking offense except for you. It seems you're having a problem with people correcting your misinformation. It also seems you have no understanding of the time involved in making phones. HTC has been working on this for months probably. Long before any apple indication and probably independent of apple as well. Don't be bothered if you were wrong and people spoke up. We're just trying to help and spread correct info so you don't say these type of things publicly and look like an even bigger ***.

I wouldn't say that's helping, I'd say that's attempting to humiliate wouldn't you? All I wanted was for people comment on the new feature they added to the finger sensor but you both got offended because i said they copied apple. Fine. They copied Motorola. And if someone has already made a fingerprint scanner it wouldn't take too long to make similar one would it? The adding of new features is what would take time. And they've had time.

Anyways, I'll concede and say you're right. Since I can't find when apple actually came out with the sensor idea. Anyways, back to what I actually wanted to talk about in this thread. Do you think the added features will be something you would actually use? It looks useful but I like to use my phones with just one hand so it'd kinda be a pain. Also, widgets on the lock screen do the job fine. Anyone think this'll be a gimmick?

Just as much of a gimmick as Apple's fingerprint sensor is, even though it probably isn't as good/accurate. I still think having a pin is a more secure way to protect your phone. People can just wait till' you're asleep and then use your finger to unlock it XD

The Engadget review said it works about 80% of the time.

If you don't wake up when someone grabs your finger and shoves it against a screen you're probably dead lol :P yeah I'd say pin is more secure.

Not me, I'm a heavy sleeper XD
Anyway, I think there should be more accessories like the Moto X clip that allowed you to unlock your phone. I think that's pretty cool :P

Every review I read or watched said the scanner was absolute crap and should have been omitted completely, and pales in comparison to the iPhone 5s'...

Fwiw I have the one max. Every review said the fingerprint scanner was no good so I didn't expect much. Well they are wrong. It works great for me and on the few occasions that you have to do it twice it's still much faster than typing a pin. I love this big device. Bob

I never use mine; its a pain, and frankly, more of an annoyance than a benefit..
I haven't lost a cell phone in my life, ever, so I don't need to be concerned with "heightened security"
