I did yesterday. Verizon said OK and it's working. Can I get assistance/advice here? New Member. this forum seems appropriate. Coming from a flip phone - Samsung Convoy 3 - and Android is intimidating. Yesterday, Verizon store activated it and was to change my billing to go from the non-smart phone ($30, less $10 for non-smart phone) to $40 for the line (added to my account with varied other phones for family members) and they were supposed to change the plan for data from 2 GB (wife's iPhone) to 4 GB shared (wife's iPhone and the new Nexus 5X. then they tried to transfer my contacts. After three different methods, they were unsuccessful. I d/led the contacts from the convoy 3 to a .csv file, imported those into my GMail account (which I don't use, and don't plan to) and found the phone numbers for all the contacts were in the notes field (text) not in the phone numbers. Verizon techs tried several ways to just d/l contacts from the Convoy 3 (didn't work) and they tried to use Backup Assistant (also didn't work). then they told me to go home, log into GMail go to each contact and CNTRL-C and CNTRL-V the notes data phone numbers to the above fields where you put the actual phone numbers. (Probably 100 +/- contacts to do this to. Not happy.) THEN! I came home (about an your after they put in the SIM chip) and had messages from Verizon that my data account for the month was over the limit! My wife came in and said, what's going on, I just got (the same) message...? (Wife;s iPhone has generally used about 1 to 1-1/2 GB per month for the past year and a half.) And my PC had an email - two actually - from Verizon informing me I was over my limit. I called and found out that (1) the Verizon store guys DID NOT change the plan to 4 GBs as they said they did, and (2) snooping around in the phone (I am totally clueless), I see under data that, in less than an hour of use, Google Play Store data usage was about 200 MB, and that plus Google Keyboard, Docs, Slides, Google Services, and Sheets combines has been over 250 MB of data usage! HELP ME GET SMART. Glad to get a link, advice, or get pointed somewhere on how to set this friggin' new phone up smartly. I have (when I got home yesterday) set the phone to use the fingerprinty-thinggie, and also set it up for my wireless network...and, I think, got it so it will not d/l except if it has a WiFi connection. (Just got an Android download 6.0.1 this morning.). When I called Verizon about the data overage, they corrected the account for 4 GB, but my complaint on a 1/4 of a GB charged to me in an hour or so, in their store, and by their CSRs trying to set up the phone was just my tough luck. ("Suck an egg" is what I heard them say. Verizon - I'm a 15 year customer now with 2 smart phones, 3 non-smart phones and a home phone on my account, is losing my love quickly!) Enough. Too long. Thanks if anyone want to make suggestions/comments. I guess I like the phone - size and all (it's a 32GB model from BuyDig (eBay) for $330 is a good deal, I think) - and I just need to figure out how to best configure it. (Not advertising...hope that's legal to comment on deals.) Again, thanks for the attention and suggestions.
UPDATE a week or more down the line. Pretty poor phone for my needs. Really a brick. Wouldn't buy again, deal or no. I put a protective case around it and a glass cover on the screen and it's nearly 7-3/4 oz. or about half a pound! I think Google in general sucks, and their lock in to gmail and such is terrible. I got my local cable provider (Cox) email running, but get no email notifications. Where are missed calls? And where is text notices, and where is...well....I probably should have stayed with the old flip-phone. No need for music. Videos and games are certainly not in the 'utility' needs. Rooting? You've got to be kidding. (Probably should have waited for Apple's new small phone.)
