I hate TouchWiz with a passion. I have a Note 3 and I use Nova Launcher on it, but it still doesn't get rid of ALL of touchWiz. The BIGGEST complaint I have is that Samsung locks down their dialer. Cannot make another dialer the default at all and Samsung's dialer is an ugly mess.

Oh man, I completely agree. I use Nova as well, and it makes it look nicer, but I feel like it just runs so slowly, but still faster than TouchWiz. I work at a Verizon retailer, and every Samsung launch at trainings they're like "haha, look at touchWiz! We did a good job!" and it's just like..... no. It's still the same old closed off, slow running crap.

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one with Dialer troubles! I was trying to use Hangouts Dialer and it just wasn't working. :/

What's ppi measurement for a digital picture? I can understand for a display device or a printed picture.. but what is ppi for a digital pic?

You are measuring the ppi of the target (ie: a phone's screen, not the camera sensor) so the PPI depends on your magnification.

For example, you could have a 4000x3000 sensor. At the sensor, which is usually small, it could be 10,000 ppi.

If you were taking a picture where the frame covered 40"x30", your ppi would be 100.

In order to take a photo of two phones and see the difference in pixels where one phone is > 500 ppi, you'd need to be capturing > 500ppi. In the above example, that means you'd have to be taking a photo of a target, where the entire frame was filled by less than 8" wide and 6" tall. That's just to have a pixel *have a chance* to discern a pixel on the screen, but there are a variety of other reasons why you'd want much higher camera resolution than that or be much closer to get an accurate difference.

The bottom line: in photos you probably couldn't possibly see a difference in the resolution itself, because cameras won't pick it up. Even if they did, it wouldn't be very indicative of real life differences. You need to just look at the two screens and see which looks better.

You do know that you need to pay a 79$ deductible on top of the 89$ you paid for 6p PROTECT plan for accidental damage right? I called google and verified. PROTECT is not the same as APPLE CARE and it's not that great.

How is that any different from AppleCare+? You pay, then you pay the deductible if you have a claim.

Just realized that if my Chromecast order is any indication, I ordered 9/29 and it arrived 10/5. The order shows "leaves warehouse by Oct. 5th". I'm hoping if they follow this same pattern in general, that means we get our 6Ps much earlier than anticipated.

Me thinks “pending” means backordered I.e. Google has less stock than they anticipated and they are going to delay deliveries. I hope I am wrong though!

It is the other way around. In fact, my guess is that "Pending" means they have the phone "in stock" and that it is waiting to ship out. That this is why people are being assigned "shipped by dates" -- they know they have the phones and are calculating, based on the date they phone starts shipping, along with the number of phones they can ship each day, to determine when they think the phone will ship.

depends on the size of the image. pixels can be converted to inches and then the calculation would be fairly simple

but if the image being compared is something like a webpage, the actual resolution of the image captured is fairly inconsequential. the clarity difference of the two screens comapred to each other will either be noticeable or it won't.

i've had a plethora of devices with various resolutions and sizes, and i can appreciate a qhd screen to a certain degree, but i've never though to compare the two closely while i had both devices (i should have done it when i had my note 4 and 6+)

for reference, i can 100% see the difference between my 6s screen and a qhd screen. it's no longer about not being able to see the distinct pixels, for me, there is a noticeable clarity and sharpness b/t 300-350ppi and over 400ppi.

i'm curious if there is another noticeable bump in clarity when you go from 400-450ppi to over 500ppi.

Re: Expected delivery

go here and see your status. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...account?purchaseFilter=devices&token=0Z6y9QpN
mine now says leave warehouse by Nov 2nd
...ditto...can almost hear that 'ka-ching' in the bkgrnd ! ;-}

What about when you are scrolling? Does the higher resolution screen maintain more sharpness?

i haven't noticed any issues with any qhd screens having issues when scrolling through something like a webpage. but then again, if i'm scrolling at any kind of speed, i'm not trying to read at the same time

scrolling at a reading pace, as far as i can remember i haven't had any kind of noticable issues witha qhd panel vs a fhd.

but any kind of issue there would be moreso with the soc powering the panel vs the ppi itself, which is a separate discussion

That could be true. I do scroll/read when i'm skimming articles, which is fairly often. And on my nexus 5 it definitely doesn't seem as sharp scrolling as i'd like.

Even if the SoC makes a big difference, also having more pixels to render with would likely make a difference also. There are too many variables for speculation so it's more of a try-and-observe kind of thing

the SoC would be pushing the pixels, which is why i would say in motion that is going to be what makes the difference, not the density of the panel inherently.

I didn't get a confirmation email either but I spoke to a Google rep and the guy said everything was fine on their end, so unless it says cancelled order I wouldn't worry.

All the Aluminums go straight from PREORDERED to PROCESSING because of a coding glitch that is skipping PENDING for certain Aluminum batches. Just like how some people in the same situation never received a confirmation email.
