J7 (Nougat) - timer won't ring when phone is in vibrate mode

So, I discovered a major issue (for me) with my timer. I almost always have my phone on vibrate so it doesn't ring at work. However, I also often use the timer to let me know when 15 minutes is up, or something like that. This is a very common thing for me. I'm coming off of an S3, where this worked just fine.

However, today I discovered that, when the J7 (running Nougat) is in vibrate mode, the timer just vibrates when it gets to 0:00. Which is absolutely useless for me. I need the sound!

So...

1) How can I make sure my alarms (which seem to be working fine even when phone is in vibrate mode, but I've missed a few, which now I'm wondering about) and timers, etc will actually ring when phone is in vibrate mode.

2) Can I change the "ringtone" of the timer, like I can with alarms?

Thank you!

If the device (any phone or tablet) is in vibrate move, that's to keep it from making any sound. You can't have it both ways - don't make any sound, but ring when the alarm goes off. You can turn all the volumes except alarms off, or you can automate the volume changes with Tasker.

Odd. It used to "have it both ways" as you put it, on my S3. I wonder why they changed that. The vibrate only applied to the ringer. I guess they changed it to apply to everything. Even so, some of my alarms still go off in vibrate mode. I wonder what the difference is about those alarms. I'll have to look into it. Is there a free version of Tasker so that I can try it out to see if it does what I want before I buy it?
