I ordered mine early AM on Feb 5 from Southern California. They credited they money back to my checking account yesterday, still no ship notice. Is that normal, or am I in trouble here?

I'm in England but based on my experience (and having read Americans on here), it's normal and a good thing. They take the money a little before they ship, so you should get a shipping notice soon.

I got a shipping notice at 4am and it arrived 4 hours later at 8am, so make sure to check your email every morning!

I just ordered my 16gb Nexus 4 on Wednesday the 6th. I ordered my bumper separately (decided to buy it an hour or so after I ordered the phone). I got the shipping e-mail for my bumper around 2:00 AM Thursday morning and arrived Friday afternoon. The money for the bumper was held/authorized until about 3 hours AFTER it was delivered at which point it was pulled out of my account. The bank hold/authorization for the phone disappeared around the same time, which tells me that it probably shipped yesterday afternoon and the money will come out either today or Monday. I expect the phone to be here on Monday but it's fine if I have to wait a couple extra days. I'm currently using an iPhone 5 which is a good device, and I can definitely deal with using it for a few more days.

I can't believe so many people are freaking out if the phone isn't on their doorstep in less than 48 hours. You guys need to relax. This is not Amazon we're dealing with. Google is pretty new to this thing, and is still learning how to handle the logistics of shipping out hundreds of thousands of devices. Calling or e-mailing Google asking the status of your phone 2 days after ordering it only complicates and slows things down. The fact that 90% of shipments are now arriving in less than a week is pretty astounding. Google isn't going to lose your order or forget about you. Just wait.

On a different note, I am really excited to get the phone.

Google's customer service is okay - but needs to learn from Apple.

I made the mistake of putting the wrong destination address on my order. I didn't realize this until 24 hours after the order was made. Seeing that it wasn't shipped and I didn't have a tracking number, one would figure a quick phone call/changing the address in Google Wallet would rectify this issue - I was wrong. Much to the detrimant of Google CSR and myself, they are unable to change a destination address one hour after putting the information in. I have been in contact with Google nearly everyday since Jan 30 trying to get them to stop the shipment. It's Feb 9 and there's still no success. I realize that it was my mistake for inputing the wrong destination address but it Google should have some ability to change a destination address if the item hasn't even been shipped.

The supply chain doesn't work like that. Once the order is accepted and the process starts, there's nothing they can do to stop it.

I hope you enjoy the phone!

I have heard terrible things about google customer service. Apple customer service really is outstanding though, it makes everywhere else seem so lazy!

Sorry to hear about your experiences, but they should really have some kind of procedure in place since I'm sure a request to change a delivery address is a pretty predictable request. I suppose that's what so great about apple, they have so much control over almost every part of the process which means they can do things a lot of other companies can't.

Apple wouldn't be able to change it after 24 hours either.

I didn't have a problem changing a delivery address with apple even after it was dispatched. Well, I had to wait for a day for it to go back to the depot but that's to be expected. I'm not sure if that was because we use a different delivery service in the UK that is more flexible, though, since I guess it's true that apple don't have their own delivery service. :p

I agree that Google does not have control over the shipping process; however, it shouldn't be a shocker that someone would have put the wrong destination address in their order. I have had the opportunity to used Apple customer service and it was never a challenge to start the process or at the very least identify the problem and have someone address it immediately. The problem with Google was such that I was passed on from specialist to representative . Apple, however, would make it so that you would not have to go through multiples representative to get the issue solved.

Google is not used to handling tangible products since most of their offerings are online services, they have a lot of catching up to do.

If it was after the 24 hours, they would have just said to send it back right away. I know, because I had that happen with an iPad. (not the wrong address, but wanted to switch to a different model and they couldn't do it)

Basically, when Google said they couldn't do it, the process had already been started at their warehouse/mailing facility and changes to the order are locked. You're absolutely right that they should have people that can handle the issue without transferring you to another person though.

If anyone still cares or is curious, I finally got my Nexus 4 after several phone calls and Emails with Google. After receiving my tracking number on February 8th-ish (placed my order on January 29), I called Google and requested to have my order be cancelled or changed to the right address. Unfortunately, Google was not able to change the destination address but told me that they'd be able to cancel it when UPS can't deliver it. They encouraged me to purchase a new Nexus 4 (I was given a tracking number for this order one day after placing the order).

Eventually the phone arrived on Valentine's day - I guess it was the universe's way of telling me they still love me.
