January OTA Security Update Now Available!

Entering your PIN is always required after a reboot. This is for security purposes.

Even so, if the FPS was responsive, tapping it would display the PIN screen.

Anyway, the unresponsive FPS while locked on the AOD can happen anytime, not necessarily after a reboot. Entering the PIN seems to "fix" it temporarily, but it eventually stops working as expected again.

So I've stayed away from this phone for a myriad of reasons but mainly about all the horrendous stuff I've been reading. This update was basically going to determine if I get it or not.

Those who were having issues, have they been resolved? Mainly poor reception, calling 911, Bluetooth connection, etc? I don't really care about anyone's battery gripes. I've learned long ago that you could have a battery that lasts a week and people will still ***** about it lol. Just making sure I made that note.

Appreciate the responses. Really want to ditch this S20 FE

I have an old LG G4 and waiting on the fence just like you to see if the issues were something that could be fixed with a Software Update, mainly the cellular reception problems, since so many people were pointing to Google's choice of modems to use, I figured it might be an unfixable Hardware problem.

The main reason I have been holding off....

Have not seen anything about the cellular reception; but some comments about Wi-Fi being better.

I think a couple people have mentioned an improvement, but they are waiting until they're back at their work location to confirm.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger. If it sucks, as others pointed out, I've got 14 days to return it. I'm looking into cases now! Excited!

Good luck.
As much as I wanted this phone in the beginning, I just cannot wrap my head around ordering one; AGAIN. Might keep using my 4XL till a few months after a Pixel 7 Pro is released or jump on a white S22U. Not sure...

It doesn't suck, the phone is fine. Although I haven't experienced any of the problems others have. So long as the January patch killed the bugs you should be fine.

Everyone's experiences are different and bad hardware does exist. I can appreciate people having both no issues and some issues. From what I've read, the January patch looks to have relieved some of those issues so that is why I went ahead and made the move. I'm hoping the experience is as good as my previous two were w/ Pixel devices.

I don't mean to sound like I'm discounting those who have experienced problems. I totally appreciate that. It is a Google hardware launch after all.

What phone did you get Pro ?

Yes, I went w/ the Pro. I had been reading about possible 5G incompatibility issues w/ the 6 and wanted to ensure I could use that w/ this device. Plus it's only a hair bigger than my S20FE so there won't be a size adjustment.

I get it and dont' want to seem like I was coming after you either. In a perfect world, technology would always work flawlessly every time..... but I would have to change careers and I like my job so in a way, I'll accept the imperfections lol

Sure did. It will actually arrive today. Got the Spigen Tough Armor case. Read good things about it and I'm a brand loyal guy and their cases have never done my wrong. Now I just need to get a screen protector. Going to review that process b/c I've never used one before but w/ these curved screens, I know they're not a sturdy as standard screens.

I'm a Spigen Thin Fit guy myself. Can't go wrong with Spigen. Great cases.

I'm getting random freezing where it seems like the touch screen is completely non-responsive. The physical buttons still work, I can press the power button and it goes to the lock screen, but then I can't unlock it. Won't register a fingerprint, won't swipe up for a pin. I hold the power button, it pulls up the menu for power off/restart/emergency etc, but I can't select any action. This goes for about 20-30 seconds then finally the phone's touchscreen becomes responsive again. This has happened to me about 3 times now since the January update - never experienced it before the Jan update.

Also had a call today where the person on the other end couldn't hear me. They kept saying 'hello, hello?' and couldn't hear anything I was saying. I checked my phone I wasn't on mute, but I pressed the button anyway to try and talk, nothing, pressed the mute button again to talk, nothing. Had to hang up and try calling again.

Two bugs I've run into with January patch that I hadn't had before.

Not that I care or have any skin in the Google game, but this phone appears to be one unhappy moment followed by one unhappy moment for you. Why don't you just part ways already?

Yay! How is the update treating everyone? Even though it's a security one, hopefully it got some kinks ironed out, bug-wise!
