January OTA Security Update Now Available!

Not that I care or have any skin in the Google game, but this phone appears to be one unhappy moment followed by one unhappy moment for you. Why don't you just part ways already?

I was just going to say the same thing. I was hoping the update would help Hero's phone, since I know he's had a lot of issues, but sounds like he may just have a bad device that will NEVER work correctly. Don't know if he had exchanged already, but would definitely start there, or a maybe just a full refund to get the bad taste out.

Yay! How is the update treating everyone? Even though it's a security one, hopefully it got some kinks ironed out, bug-wise!

I've had lots of use here since the update. I've not found any issues so far. Although I should add that I had no issues before the update. Loving my pixel 6 Pro!

I have been observing the stark differences in experiences between different people, like night and day. I realize Human Nature will dictate that people who have a good experience are less apt to take to message boards like this than ones with a bad experience (the reviews on Verizon still show MOST people very happy with the Pixel 6/Pro), but is Google's QC that bad, or is this typical of all manufacturers?

I spent years on the Moto support forums and it was basically the same. Every new phone section was bombarded with complaints, issues, etc. and a few posts from people that had no issues and enjoyed their new phone.

Sounds as I suspect. Makes it hard for perspective buyers to get an accurate picture of the chances of getting a bad phone.

All phones have problems, not all people will admit to those problems. Some problems are area dependent, some are due to the way a person uses a phone and what they use the phone for. However, with this phone a lot of people appear to forget, Google has admitted there have been problems and looking at it from the outside (no phone in my possession) it appears they admitted to a lot of bugs (something like over 100 fixes in the Jan update).
And this forum is not the only place to see reviews of the phone by actual customers. The internet is full of problems, and it appears, most are fixed, which is a good thing.

I give google credit, they jumped on the bug fixes, and considering how many fixes they had to do, they jumped pretty quick. However, maybe if they do this new processor/phone again in the future, they will do more testing before releasing even if it causes a release a few months later than planned.

I believe google has hurt themselves more by what appears to be an early release than if they had held back to this month for release.

However, it has taught me a lesson that I did not even participate in. meaning, I will not jump on a phone till it has been on the market and in actual users' hands until at least a few weeks have passed. And I don't mean reviews of the features, specs, feel for the glass and metal, I mean actual down and dirty use by humans who own the phone.

I agree with RETG. I will never, ever pre-order another phone again regardless of any promotional offers. I want the S22 Ultra badly, but will patiently wait.

Another possible bonus for waiting is (for example) the S21Ultra was placed on Amazon on Jan 14, for $1199.99 (full retail for 128gb model); on Feb 8, it went on sale for $999.99. The 256gb went from $1249 to $1049 on the same days.

For me preordering a Pixel phone and being the first to own a new release is a lot of fun. I would have no problem switching to something else if I had problems or didn't like a purchase.

As my name might suggest, I trade stocks and work entirely from home. I can spend weeks at a time entirely on WiFi and never leave my acreage. (Since the pandemic started, Amazon Prime and Amazon Prime Groceries have been my friends.) When I'm not working on my piano technique and repertoire, I'm spending a lot of time with my computer and my phone.

I don't have a cell phone signal on my property and I'm entirely on WiFi. I've only been on 5G a couple of short times and connectivity was problem free. I read the Pixel problem lists and fixes and I've never been affected that I'm aware of.

So far, any problems that I've encountered have always been application problems. I can honestly say that I've enjoyed a problem free Pixel 6 Pro from the time I unboxed it.

The world has many people who would complain about something if you gave them a free weekend in heaven.

I have no regrets preordering my Pixel 6, have enjoyed this phone since Day 1 with it. Yes, some of the bugs affected me a little. But none were so bad that it made me frustrated. I would recommend this phone to anyone in a heartbeat.

I haven't had any problems with my Pixel 6. Not one. But, you can hardly compare anything free with a device you pay for and count on for communication, internet access, work connectivity and just staying connected in general. Don't try to discredit those who have had problems. It's real and affects people.

No regrets here on my P6P day 1 pre-order. I have had a couple of the minor bugs but nothing that has frustrated me or made my phone unusable. I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I'm very happy with my phone.

I was not “discrediting” anyone, it was a general observation.

That's great that you haven't had any issues since the January update -- nor have you had any issues this far! Yay!

I like my Pixel 6. Some folks get all technical and stuff. But, for me, it does what I'm looking for it to do, and it does it well. I like the Pixel experience.
