After updating to 4.3 my PDANet does not work.

Sorry, if you had read through the other carriers forums you would have been aware that this was a change in 4.3 - they have blocked those clients (FoxFi, etc).

Just got the update today for my SG3. Can't use facebook when connected to wi-fi. Statuses show but not comments, messages, alerts etc. Also, seems my phone won't stay connected to the wi-fi...keeps 'reconnecting'. Re-installed, took battery out and restarted, played with wi-fi settings. Nothing works.

You could try clearing the data in the FB app or do a factory reset/cache clear and start clean. Others on a different thread are doing the latter. Not sure if they are doing it as a precaution or because of some issue. The thread is "Where is the 4.3 update for Verizon Galaxy S3?" Lots of info there.

Anyone who uses PDANet and/or FoxFi for tethering please post up issues with these apps after update to JB.
Would also like to know if those who use a widget to turn on their wireless hotspot have any trouble doing that after the JB update.

From what I have read. These are both broken. I have yet to have a chance to test it out but sounds like they have been blocked by vzw for the time being.

Yes atm FoxFi does not work on the S3 with the new 4.3 update. I'm sure the developer will update the app as the S4 with 4.3 works just fine.

Just updated my Verizon Galaxy s3 to 4.3 and it broke FoxFi I emailed the developer they usually get fixes out quickly but it blows my Roku weekend oh well.

Ok I read through this entire thread and nobody seems to have my problem.

The only issue I have with JB is the "settings" menu looks the same as ICS. No "tabs" at the top of the menu. Otherwise, phone is much faster and much like my S4. Really love the "Adaptive Sound" widget.... worth the upgrade right there if you listen to music or even use the phone.

When on the Settings page, go to the menu button. Voila! Tabbed settings!

Do factory reset. Also after you do that, take battery out for 40 minutes and put back in, let it drain to 15 percent recharge to full you should be good to go.

BTW, did you do the Factory Reset after the update to 4.3?
Did you also clear the cache in Recovery mode after the update?

What he said about pulling the battery. I was asking would I still be able to do that even if I had did the update a few days before hand. Now to answer your questions, yes, I did both. Does the order matter? I cleared my cache before the reset.

You can pull the battery any time you like (preferably when you've already shut the phone down). I see no value in leaving the battery out for 40 minutes - a minute or so should be plenty. Running the battery down and then giving it a full charge is a good thing to do after an update, just in case they changed anything to do with battery calibration. And it's good to do every few months just so you can gauge the health of the battery. Just my $0.02.

Now to answer your questions, yes, I did both. Does the order matter? I cleared my cache before the reset.

As long as you did both after the update to 4.3 you are good - the order shouldn't matter. And note that you can clear the system cache any time you feel like it - it doesn't hurt anything and it runs quickly so it's relatively painless.

I was having problems with my browser freezing. I tried to clear cache to no avail. I did a factory reset (why can't it be as easy as an iPhone reset) it didn't make not one iota of difference. It just took 3 hours of my life away from me trying to put all of my shortcuts and settings back to their original state.

it should be pretty painless to restore your Home screens and app shortcuts.

If you use Helium: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup (even on non-rooted phones) then it's easy to restore your apps and app data.

If you use the Kies software on your PC/Mac then you can restore your SMS/MMS, call logs and some TouchWiz settings (among other things).
And of course everyone stores their pictures/videos on an SD card AND makes sure they're automatically backed up to the cloud using something like Cloud Drive: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.amazon.clouddrive.photos

An hour?

Of course, except for Cloud Drive, you have to remember to make these various backups before you perform the Factory Reset.

@GSDer I don't know if tagging is capable on here so here's my attempt to tag....
My internet keeps saying its unstable since the update. I read previously that if your IP address starts with 192 then its a bad connection mostly. I don't have a computer, I believe my IP does start with that but how do I stop the constant instability? & I have the stock browser, it crashes probably every 3 to 4 times I open it & try to watch something. I have adobe flash, had it before the update & t worked flawlessly. Any tips or anything I can do to correct this? My wife did the update also on her note 2 & same problem. We're on Verizon. Thank you.

Sprint didn't release Jelly Bean until early December. At first I thought it was great. The phone actually ran a bit faster. As time goes on you learn all the sneaky little gotchas from Google. First, I went to use Navigation app. Always worked great. If you were on the road all you had to do was say or type in a destination and it took it from there. Now it brings up a dumb (literally) screen where I have to look at the screen and press at least two options before it brings up speech recognition. Then it cautions you it's in Beta and not to rely on the directions! Navigation was easy to use and was always right!

In the last five days I've discovered, after many hours of trying to figure out what was wrong with my external SDcard, you can no longer write files to the card. I can read existing files, but can't modify or add any new files. It seems there may be a way to work around this, but you need to be a real techno-geek to do it. The only reason for deliberately taking away the ability to use the external SDcard would be to ensure people need to upgrade to the next latest and greatest, with more space device, software, whatever.

One thing I really dont like is how if you press the home button it takes you to the task manager instead of long pressing the home button like before. And also a ton of lag.

Guess it may be time for a reset to see if that helps.

Perhaps you mean 'didn't release 4.3' - Jelly Bean comprises all builds from 4.1 to 4.3 and has been out for awhile.

I have seen no such limitation. Perhaps you have a 3rd party application that's causing this issue. You could try booting into Safe mode and see if the problem persists; if it doesn't then some app is the culprit.

If you haven't done a Factory Reset since accepting the OTA you should consider it.

I have run into an issue after the update to 4.3. When I access my green phone dialer button i get a fault alert that tells me "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped." I have force stopped contacts and contacts storage and then did a factory reset. so i called verizon and then got me a new phone. loaded it ... had no issues yesterday however this morning i am having the same problem again. I can open contacts and access phone numbers from there but cannot use the phone dial pad. Not sure what else to do. any thought?
