Jelly bean update

Could be... I've been working the GNex update the last 2 days... It really didn't take off until yesterday mid day.

Probably next week we will get a notification.

Question while we're waiting..... I noticed on the GNex update thread that the manual update using the link isn't quite as easy as it used to be.? Jerry even alluded to this in his post.? Any way to know before we get the link, if the easy old method of downloading the file to the root of the SD, renaming it to update.zip, & then installing it from system recovery is going to work?

The "update.zip" method no longer works as of the release of ICS.

Yes it appears the stock recovery is still capable on the NS4G/ICS v4.0.4 to flash update.zip (manual method) from sdcard.

Boot into your bootloader

Select recovery

You will get a screen with Android laying on his back with his guts open and an exclamation point.

Press start then volume up and you will enter stock recovery.

Select apply update from /sdcard

Now... We just need the update to be pushed out :p

FYI, I just flashed stock imm76d (official ICS 4.0.4 factory images), just the recovery.img over my TWRP custom recovery and verified it does still work.

I tried that before and it didn't work with the ICS update. After checking around on Google and XDA, the update didn't work anymore in ICS.

Also, those who did try to update ICS > JB with the original Nexus S weren't able to on XDA back in July. Are we sure it still works?

Worked for me with ICS... anything else, I don't know.

I guess were gonna find out come update time aren't we :)

Otherwise you will have two options.

1. Wait for the OTA to hit your device and allow it to update automatically
2. Use the alternative method of unlocking your bootloader (yes this wipes the device) and then booting (not installing) into a custom recovery (CWM/TWRP) to flash the manual-update.zip file.

The second option is what XDAers had to do when they wanted to manually update. It seems those that did try update.zip (ICS to JB) got an error message.

I wouldn't get too anxious over the OTA, I've been running JellyButt since I got the phone and haven't looked back. When it's updated to JRO03R, it'll probably be better than the OEM ROM anyways. I know there's a crowd that doesn't want to root, but the reward/risk ratio for rooting this phone is far above that of some other phones.

maybe it's just me, but i have always had a problem with the Jelly Bean ROMs ive installed. specifically Google Now. id hit the search hardware button and I'd get a white screen for a solid 10 seconds or so followed by the "bling!" sound effect but no visual cue, leaving me wondering whether or not it heard me. even the JR00E version does this.

I'd like to try a total wipe and see if that fixes anything. I I know how to do Wipe Data in recovery but how can I ensure total destruction?

Team EOS build 17 seems to be rock solid for me, I like it so far and everything seems to work fine.

Another question while we wait. I too have tried clearing the Google Framework & alas, it does not help. I did notice that each time, when I go back to CHECK NOW, it says not checked since 12/31/1969. Anything significant about this date that I am missing?
