Jelly bean update

Another question while we wait. I too have tried clearing the Google Framework & alas, it does not help. I did notice that each time, when I go back to CHECK NOW, it says not checked since 12/31/1969. Anything significant about this date that I am missing?

You activated the hidden flux capacitor setting!

That is the most likely date of my conception ;-)

Just did a Google search on the 12/31/1969 phenomenon. Come to find out January 1 1970 was the launch of Unix and thus day 1. So you wipe all data to zero ( like go to Google services framework and wipe data) you will get a date of 12/31/1969!

Heads up, guys (and gals):

http://i.imgur.com/28K4R.jpg This was posted by a NS4G owner on the XDA forums.

Apparently, if you go to a Sprint repair store (or corporate too), you can get the update on your phone. HOWEVER, this person just got them put on his USB drive and he is currently uploading the files to his Google Drive (it's too big for Dropbox).

We may see a manual flash of this OTA tonight.

xda-developers - View Single Post - Jellybean finally coming to Nexus S 4G (read from this post on, he also called tech support to get information, apparently this may take more than a week to be pushed officially)

As a Sprint tech support employee, I'm calling BS on this one. Highly unlikely that a Repair center would have these link's, and Tech Support would have no idea. Also, if you gotta do any flashing or bootloader unlocking to get it, a store isn't gonna support.

As they say, flash at your own risk.

I just called the corporate Sprint store and was told that JB hasn't even pushed for the NS4G despite their site saying it has. She said that, whenever it does push, it'll be in batches via the serial number of your phone.

So, either he has it or doesn't or Sprint never pushed it in the first place and we're waiting for nothing.

We'll just have to see once the files he's uploading are finished. No reason to call BS on it if we're going to get runaround answers from Sprint techs themselves.

EDIT: He stated that it's not just the TAR files he's gotten but an EXE that apparently does everything for you when you put the phone into Download mode.

Yeah, I'm gonna lmao if it is an ics updater lol

If it is, then the Sprint corporate rep I talked to could be right and Sprint never pushed it at all so I wouldn't laugh too much.

More likely is that the OTA for the Gnex pushed out 1st and the NS4G will push out soon & be done by 9/13. We'll find out all our answers on 9/14.

If that's true, then it should've started today at midnight but it hasn't. The representative even stated it hasn't been pushed at all which means the 9/6/2012 date could be a lie.

Either way, in order to get ALL NS4G owners to JB by Thursday, they would have to start today and slowly roll it out. However, if they start tomorrow, they'll have to rush and Google isn't going to do that.

The files given to him, Downloading them now and checking them out before flashing (if I do).

Confirmed to be the real deal.

I think there a lot more GNex people than NS4G people, so 2 days may be enough to hit us all.

Edit: I retract my comments... Seem to be the real deal.. ;)

Interesting part is look at that picture....

Baseband is the still the same old modem/radio from ICS.

Also kernel build date was July 13 which is a long time ago...

Hmm I'm still a bit skeptical on this...

I can build and put together a complete stock "flashable" or factory images of Jelly Bean on my build environment and make it look legit.... LOL

The kernel is what has me wondering... Its not normal for a carrier/OEM released update to have that old of a kernel released with it.

Look at the XDA thread. It has the full image. Cones with new boot loader and radio.

Yes I see that now....

Well there ya go... For those willing to unlock their bootloader and flash them via FASTBOOT your good to go...

The software package also comes with a flashing tool for Windows that Sprint must use to reset / upgrade these phones. You need to place the phone in to download mode (power off, hold volume up / volume down at the same time, and with the buttons still pressed, insert the USB cable in to the phone) then follow the instructions on screen.

The tar can also be used with ODIN

Plus if you extract the tar's it has the factory images inside to use in Fastboot.... So pick your poison :p
