A friend of mine showed me the JerrRigEverything test of the iPhone 7 because he ordered one. He wasn't being snotty or anything, it was just interesting. I didn't know this particular site existed. I was actually impressed by the consistency with which this guy tests phones... lthough I don't get the lighter test. When does that happen?

Anyway, I am not going to post the terrible results of his tests on the 6P. He did it twice because people complained. Just terrible. There are only two phones he puts to shame and one is the 6P.

I am going to post this other video he did that shows the 6P is not all metal. It kind of disappointed me how much plastic there is. I had no idea. Do you think Google was trying to put one over on us?

I still love my Nexus 6P and don't regret buying it. I just would have preferred knowing this.

(errr... or is this totally old news? Did I miss it?)

It's really old news (January 2016 old). This isn't anything new. I believe the LG G5 implements a similar finish, or not really all metal design as marketed. It's a solid device and is great looking.

I saw the date but I thought it would have been a big discussion on here. I searched "metal" and only saw it come up for the G5. I've been in this forum since the phone came out and don't recall seeing anyone bring it up.

Yes, I agree the phone is great and I know most of the people on here are big fans of it as am I. However, Google claims in several places: "All-metal design with powerful hardware and the newest Android software, Android 6.0 Marshmallow." That's just not true. Luckily we all like the phone but I don't want a company to bend the truth when they try and sell it to me. (bend... get it.... :) ) I mean, how much deception is acceptable?

Some plastic in the Pixel is not going to stop me from considering it but if the top and bottom is plastic, they shouldn't say "all metal." It's the principle. Don't manipulate the objective facts.

I think when they're saying all metal design, they're saying the majority is metal. If you wanted to take their words literally, there is no phone that is an all metal design.

Regardless there was a fairly large thread about this issue when the phone and his videos came out. And like I said when it came out, he had to press like hell to get it to bend. Look at his fingers, they turned white when he was trying to bend it, that points to an extreme amount if force being exerted (if you don't believe me, try to bend something with little effort, and then with all your strength, and look at your fingers when doing so). In addition to that, you also need to look at the guy Jerryrigeverything doing the test. He's not a 90lb weakling. In fact he competes in strongman competitions. Here's a pic of the man (he's the one dressed as Bane).

So while it does bend, it's not as easy as he makes it out to be.

VERY interesting. Jeez - he's huge! Ok, I am at peace again. (not like I was going to give up my 6P or anything!)

Just remember that the second destroyed Nexus 6P was absolutely going to be destroyed so he would save face not that the device doesn't have its obvious weak points and construction because it definitely does. The lighter test is silly and really does nothing imo.

Agreed on all counts. I don't believe that the 6p is the strongest device out there, but he made it seem like it would bend by looking at it wrong. I've had it for almost a year now, it's still straight as an arrow. And i have no idea what the lighter test is supposed to accomplish either.

In case anyone else decides to comment on this, I want to emphasize that the main point of my post was a comment on the "all metal" body of the 6P. I guess I shouldn't have mentioend the torture and bend tests. I appreciate all the bend comments - informative - but I have to admit I am still a little surprised by the amount of plastic in the phone compared to, you know, the other guy.

"...all housed in a contoured aluminum body" and "All-metal design" are featured on the web site.

I guess I'm the guy that took those phrases to mean what they say rather than how they should be interpreted when it comes to phones. I think I was aware that was plastic was probably necessary for the antennas but the 6P has more than that. Aren't Samsung's flagships truly all metal and/or glass? Then there's that ASUS phone that is actually, truly all metal.

I am not hung up on having an all metal phone. I've learned how to interpret these claims now. I actually never had a problem with plastic in a phone. The metal and glass is nice though.

(And, again, I still love my Nexus 6P, it looks great, beautiful screen and I'm not worried about it bending... I am just discussing a principle here)

Samsung flagships are all metal and glass with some small plastic lines for radio signals.

But doing glass is much easier since it doesn't block radio waves the way aluminum does.

While it's a bit discomforting to know that it's not as strong as one would want unless you have the tightest jeans in the universe and you keep a giant phone sticking out in your back pocket I don't think there's any chance of it resulting in a permanent bend.

Just like the iPhone 6 Plus bendgate barely anyone actually had this problem in the real world and YouTubers did a fine job of blowing things way out of proportions.

JerryRig does make fantastic and informative videos though and the information he gives us is extremely useful.

I'm sorry but his videos aren't useful or informative. If you attempt to bend something it bends, if you burn something, ohhh man it burns. He is the new version of 'will it blend' completely useless videos.
