Hey I'm wondering if a jig would work for a gs3. And if so are all jigs the same?

Jist wondering because my phone wont turn on at all. The led light lights up red for 30 seconds when its plugged in with out the battery. That's it.

I must've been sick the day that they covered "jigs" in the Smartphone 101 class. I have no clue what you're talking about.

You describe what happens when you attempt to power on the phone with the battery removed - what happens when a battery is installed and it's not on the charger?
Are you using the stock charger/cable?
Have you tried others?
Have you tried booting up in Recovery?
Was your phone working fine, and then suddenly this started?
Did anything worth mentioning coincide with the start of the problem (dropped; dropped in the toilet; overheated; etc)?
(So many questions; so little information provided)

From Google:
JIG is a device which every custom rom users must have. Because there are so many custom roms are available in the net, and you cannot predict which one is stable and which one is not. so if you flashed your device with a dumb rom you probably enters into hardbrick so again and again you cannot go to the service centers and ask for motherboard replacement. So this problem can be overcome with the use of JIG.

It was a new one on me also.

To the OP, did you search Google?

Holy hand grenade, Batman! You mean I've been loading custom ROMs on my smartphones all this time without using a JIG? I'm surprised they haven't all burst into flames or something.
I'd better go out and obtain a quality JIG before all hell breaks loose! :banghead:

Maybe it'll come with a Ginzu knife so it isn't all bad :) We'll expect a full report...

I can honestly say I've never even heard of a "Jig"...

But here's more info: Need a Samsung USB Jig? Build Your Own ? xda-developers

To the OP: Is this something that happened after flashing a ROM? The "Jig" is specifically meant to get to you to Download mode, so that you can flash a stock firmware to restore your phone after a bad flash (i.e. a software problem). If your problem is hardware related, such as a fried circuit or bad battery, etc, I doubt the Jig would help...

I have used a jig for my s3 that I bought a while ago for the s2 and it works fine.

So much for my silliness!
Although I've never been in need of one, it looks like a nifty device. May have to see if I can find a professional-looking one on Amazon.
Thanks to the OP for bringing up the topic and for the really useful links!

I love having one, and I've had many occasions to use mine while unable to enter download mode on my Fascinate. In fact, I'll be getting an S3 soon and I don't want to start flashing without one. My question is: are all Jigs the same? Can I use my first generation Galaxy series Jig with my S3? Here is what I found from a reviewer on Amazon:

"...I want to shed some light on a few things. Firstly, if the jig doesn't work, its probably because your device is fully bricked and nothing can be done to bring it back. Secondly, ALL jigs are the same. Whether you buy it from this vendor or that vendor, they are assembled the same. I've made a few home-made jigs and tested them across many different Galaxy devices with confirmation that they all worked. I bought this to prove that this jig is no different: a 300K Ohm resistor across pins 4 and 5. Don't take the title as the only correct source of information as it is only a marketing tool, and do some research on what can or can't be done to fix a device...."

Is this guy right? I won't 'splode my S3 if I use my Fascinate-branded Jig with it? pamela80, you state that you used your S3 Jig with your S2, and others have stated that they've used their first generation Galaxy S Jig's with their S2...so it would seem that they really can be used with all Samsung devices? I'm still a little bit squeamish about using a non-S3 branded Jig in my new $600 device, but it is very important that I not spend an additional $4 :) Let me know if anyone has any insight.
