AC Question

Hi guys,

Really in need of some advice. I have been deep rooted into the Apple ecosystem now for a long time but after seeing the latest 'amazing' iOS 11 release details and the lack of...anything really that impresses me, I can't keep kidding myself that I am underwhelmed every year at the lack of innovation.

So... I've made the massive jump and bought a Galaxy S8+ from an iPhone 7. BUT I really need some help in getting everything synced and working like it should on the S8+ as I am massively into using the iCloud services (drive, calendars, notifications, reminders, bookmarks) all of it. I also have a large music library bought through iTunes and iCloud photos for all my videos and photos.

So really over the next week or so I need to set up my S8+ and transfer everything. If I start with the photos and videos, I've been told the Google photos app is the way forward? Download on my iPhone and let them transfer across to the Google photos app right? What about contacts etc?

Thanks! Feeling a bit nervous about it all as iOS is all I know and at least it worked!

I would start here:

https://www.android.com/switch/

Once you've got the main things switched then you can start with your music.

For that, I would install Google music manager on the computer that stores your iTunes library and point music manager to the iTunes library. Let music manager load all your music into the cloud which depending on the amount will take a long time. You can also connect your phone to the PC and copy your iTunes media folder to the sd card or internal storage on the S8+ to have it available offline as well.

It's a little unnerving separating yourself from the chains of iOS, but once you do you'll find out very quickly how easy it is and somewhat liberating.

Yeah get Google photos on your iPhone add back up the photos there... They will then be accessible on anything you can access Google photos on.

Some iCloud things can work... Calender and mail etc. Music, if it's on your laptop, upload your music to Google play music.

Drive, I'd recommend changing to Google or one drive. Both of these are really good and will be excellent strife solutions. Google drive will also serve to back up phone to much like the iPhone does to iCloud.

OP, do a Full Backup on iTunes and be sure to be backing up everything you want to move to the S8, then after you turn on your S8 for the first time or even after you do it, you should have the option to use Samsung Smart Switch, is under Cloud and Account settings if you have already set the basic stuff on the S8, or like I said in the first boot up.

I'd try this first and depending on what gets transferred and not then you do a more specific action to move the rest.
