Just cancelled my S3 Pre-order

I got a Visa Signature through BoA as well and while I don't think they ever declined the charge, I did get an automated phone call asking me to confirm the charges.

I agree with some of the people above about calling your credit card company previous to the charge. I called them last week and they asked for the amount of the charge and where the charge was coming from. I gave them the charge amount and advised it was for a VZW cell phone order. They stated a memo would be attached to my account for the next 30 days. I used a Visa CC myself. Always to be safe than sorry! :)

I have a Visa Signature card (FYI - signature cards are for people with outstanding credit and actually allow charges over your credit limit). Credit limit is $15,000. Card has a zero balance on it.

There was absolutely zero reason for the charge to be declined. I have had this card since 2006, and have never had a charge declined on it until today. Since there are multiple people on this forum with the same experience, this tells me that Verizon has a trash e-commerce site that is written so poorly it trips fraud alerts at apparently almost every bank in the country.

This is all on Verizon - not me.

Same thing happened on my Amex, it was held and I got a call from their fraud department. I approved it and they pushed it through. VZW then told me the same thing.

I'm seriously thinking about just hopping over to AT&T at this point. VZW has great coverage but has been a never-ending string of frustration for me.

Pleas do already. ATT will not cause you any irritations.

You do know that cc companies can be contacted prior to charges to ensure no issues are encountered. Well, obviously many don't. I can say that in 30 years of card use I have never had a card declined unless due to my own negligence in some way or another.

As a consumer, you have responsibilities, and communicating with your 15k signature card should be one of them.
Glitches happen all the time. I've had several transactions declined over the years; none was my fault. Some were triggered by poor fraud prevention techniques, others may have been on the merchant's part. In some cases, the card issuer had no record of declining when called from the POS, yet another card from the issuer is always accepted.

Aside from periods of unusual travel patterns, contacting the issuer every time would be ludicrous and counterproductive.

Going to A Suck & Suck because of this? I mean, how often do you order devices like this? Is it worth it? Hell no. Take a deep breath and go to your happy place and it will be okay.

Some cc companies will decline a card if it hasn't been used in a long time. I do believe it's an automatic thing that just kicks in after a certain amount of time.

i know your pain op. although i just cancelled because i didn't want it. lol thumbs up for waiting til august to see what comes out :)

Here's how verizon screwed me. I preordered on 6/7. They sent me this email on 7/5:

Your Order is on Hold

Dear Valued Customer,
Your order is scheduled to be processed. Average processing time is 3 days. You will receive a confirmation email when processing is complete and your device has shipped.
Thank You,
Verizon Wireless

Apparently, that was to tell me my payment was rejected (my credit card had been stolen in mid June and they were still using the new number), but they never used the words "rejected" or "call us." Just leaving the impression that everything will be alright and the phone will ship on 7/11. Also, I never heard anything from my credit card company.

Called today. They told me my order had been cancelled because I hadn't called them. I could get back in the queue and get a phone on 7/19 under the new data plan.

No thanks. Starting research on whether ATT or Sprint in better in DC.

I work at a financial institution, and I'm sorry to say, but sometimes something as stupid as an electronic glitch can decline a transaction. The merchants processing service doesn't communicate properly with the card issuer, thus resulting in a decline. Sometimes VISA cancels a card without telling the owner because customers in the area were involved in similar fraudulent transactions. There could be probably 30 reasons a card might be declined.

I wouldn't really characterize the CC companies proactively declining random charges as looking out for customers. A customer cannot be held responsible for a fraudulent charge. I think they're more looking out for themselves.

several years ago I had Verizon,,,I was sittin in the stands @ Safeco Field watchin the Mariners play looking right at the Verizon sign on the right field wall....the announcer says hey order your consessions delivered to your seat on your Verizon phone.... I pull the phone out and guess what.....NO SIGNAL!!!!!....p&^@ks

Yep, you're right. Just very frustrating. After a deep breath and some cooling off time, I'm just waiting patiently for Thursday when I can walk into my local store and pick one up.

That's a good point. I wish Verizon would have just taken the money at the time of preorder.

As you say, this would have avoided the issue. If there was a decline / hold / fraud check, the charge would have been re-run long before time became a factor. I'm not necessarily blaming VZW, or AMX for that matter, it's just quite frustrating after waiting the better part of a month and then having to wait even longer.

EDIT: Actually, I am blaming VZW. They could have handled it better. When I called in, rather than sliding the ship date out to July 19, the could have recognized the situation and overridden the shipment to back to the original date. That is the real source for my frustration.

When your card was stolen, didn't you think to contact Verizon to change your credit card on file for your order? My card was shut down for fraud last week and I immediately contacted every company that uses that card for automatic charges, INCLUDING my verizon order. Think you need to take some responsibility for this one too.

As for charging us when we placed our order, everyone would have been in an uproar if we were asked to pay a month before we received the phone. Anything ordered over the internet typically does not charge until it is shipped.

My bank declined the charge too, but only because they thought that the order was fraudulent. I called VZW to see if I can still keep my ship date and they said that I could if I just charged the phone to my acct, which I did. Got it yesterday.

That happened to me to. It did delay my delivery from Friday to Monday only because we missed the 4:30 cutoff for fedex. First my credit card was shut down for fraud, so i called last monday to change the card on the order to Am Ex. then Tuesday my order was on hold because of a payment issue, which turned out to be Am Ex declining the charge due to possible fraud. Very frustrating week. And it cost me a week without the phone since my phone is now sitting at home waiting for me in NJ and I am in Chicago til Friday. did go play with one in a verizon store last night though, which passified me for a bit :)

I had a similar situation as the poster, but different result.

Card was declined due to bank error (I had deposited CASH, but the bank still put a hold on the funds until I called and complained) yesterday.

Noticed the email this morning, called, they put it through and it got approved.

Two hours later, I got a FedEx tracking number from Vzw.
