I got a Visa Signature through BoA as well and while I don't think they ever declined the charge, I did get an automated phone call asking me to confirm the charges.
I have a Visa Signature card (FYI - signature cards are for people with outstanding credit and actually allow charges over your credit limit). Credit limit is $15,000. Card has a zero balance on it.
There was absolutely zero reason for the charge to be declined. I have had this card since 2006, and have never had a charge declined on it until today. Since there are multiple people on this forum with the same experience, this tells me that Verizon has a trash e-commerce site that is written so poorly it trips fraud alerts at apparently almost every bank in the country.
This is all on Verizon - not me.
I'm seriously thinking about just hopping over to AT&T at this point. VZW has great coverage but has been a never-ending string of frustration for me.
Pleas do already. ATT will not cause you any irritations.

Glitches happen all the time. I've had several transactions declined over the years; none was my fault. Some were triggered by poor fraud prevention techniques, others may have been on the merchant's part. In some cases, the card issuer had no record of declining when called from the POS, yet another card from the issuer is always accepted. You do know that cc companies can be contacted prior to charges to ensure no issues are encountered. Well, obviously many don't. I can say that in 30 years of card use I have never had a card declined unless due to my own negligence in some way or another.
As a consumer, you have responsibilities, and communicating with your 15k signature card should be one of them.
Same thing happened on my Amex, it was held and I got a call from their fraud department. I approved it and they pushed it through. VZW then told me the same thing.

Going to A Suck & Suck because of this? I mean, how often do you order devices like this? Is it worth it? Hell no. Take a deep breath and go to your happy place and it will be okay.
That's a good point. I wish Verizon would have just taken the money at the time of preorder.
As you say, this would have avoided the issue. If there was a decline / hold / fraud check, the charge would have been re-run long before time became a factor. I'm not necessarily blaming VZW, or AMX for that matter, it's just quite frustrating after waiting the better part of a month and then having to wait even longer.
EDIT: Actually, I am blaming VZW. They could have handled it better. When I called in, rather than sliding the ship date out to July 19, the could have recognized the situation and overridden the shipment to back to the original date. That is the real source for my frustration.
My bank declined the charge too, but only because they thought that the order was fraudulent. I called VZW to see if I can still keep my ship date and they said that I could if I just charged the phone to my acct, which I did. Got it yesterday.
