Just got an iPad and I find it rather disappointing

Just got an iPad 3, it's actually my first tablet ever. I thought it would be pretty cool to compliment my iPhone 6s. But it basically is the same thing as iPhone, just on a tablet. It receives texts, tells me when someone is calling me, and I didn't really fancy that, since I wanted a new experience.

But to make things worse, I have to say that it's not really that great watching movies on it. It hurt my neck trying to lay down and hold it. I think I'd much rather watch a Netflix movie on either a laptop or a television.

I honestly don't see too much use for the thing. Even typing emails was a pain, just doing it via the touch screen. Very slow. Would a Samsung Tablet be better than an iPad? Would it give me a different experience? I really feel like this iPad isn't doing anything that my computer or phone does. The only thing it's sort of good for is playing games, but I kinda prefer using the phone because I don't like a big touch screen, it's just kind of awkward to hold.

Ok, look here - Samsung tablet will give you totally different experience since it is Android, not iOS. But.. It is still just tablet. So you would still have pain in your neck while watching movie - it's brand-independent feeling. Really. Same with typing E-mails. However, Android has much wider choice of different on-screen keyboards so probably some of them will fit you more than iOS one offers. So don't expect big changes, but they will be quite significant. In the case you need dramatically new feelings - Google Glass is your choice.

I don't think it will, perhaps a different experience as you would be using Android over iOS. I have an Android tablet, but do not receive text messages on it, because I have not set it up, nor do I have a SIM on it. It's good for playing games with my son (he's 2) and fantastic for Google Music either using the in built speakers or casting to my TV's Chromecast and listening to the music via the surround system.

I don't get the draw to tablets...I'm fine with my laptop or phone. Every time I pick up my wife's iPad I just think it's lame and put it down.

Android tablets are just big Android phones the same as the iPad is just a big iPhone.

If you want something more than just a big phone I recommend the Microsoft Surface. Or if you are happy with your laptop there is no reason to give that up. I don't own a tablet myself. I am perfectly happy with a smart phone and my laptop. I also hate using the touch screen or motion controls for games. They will have to pry a traditional controller with analog sticks from my cold dead hands.

I have found that there are many more iPad apps that are designed to be different on the iPad then on the iPhone. I have owned and still own an iPad Mini and I owned an iPad Air fir several months. I preferred the iPad apps most if the time when comparing those apps with the same apps on my Nexus 7.

On Android, many of the apps are no different than the phone apps because the OS simply upscales them so they look good on an Android tablet.

One setting that I have always liked on the android side is the font sizes. You set the font size in settings and that carries over to all of the apps. On iOS, if you set a larger font size in settings, many apps still are independent and will use a very small font. Facebook was one of those apps until they recently updates the app so that it would automatically adjust the font size to what the user set in the iPhone/iPad settings.

I still like using both platforms and probably will always own an iPad and some sort of Android tablet.

Generally, if the OP found it hard to type out an email on the iPad, it won't be that much different on an Android tablet. A touchscreen is a touchscreen and the user is typing on a keyboard that is drawn out on that screen. The keyboards look different on iOS than on Android of course but in reality, the user is still typing by touch on an onscreen keyboard.

I have bought so many different devices over the past year and I like being able to use one for a while and then with to another. I have a 15" retina MBP, a 13" MBP, an iPad Mini, Nexus 7, Surface Pro 3, iPhone 6+, Note 4, Note Edge, Nexus 4, and I think that's about it. If I get bored with one, I start using another.

For some reason, I find tablets cute little toys. When I go to the store and I see the Samsung tablet on display, it looks kinda fun. But in reality, I am not sure what I would use it for. Heck, the iPad I just got doesn't even have strong of enough connection to make Netflix work. It's pretty pointless, it doesn't function anywhere as good as my plain old laptop. I'm just wondering what I would do with a Samsung Tablet. I just think it looks like a well designed gadget. Does it have different kind of games?

Other than a few games, I haven't found any use for my iPad. For internet related activities, It just doesn't perform all that well. And typing on it is awful. I don't like holding it either. Sure it may be smaller than a laptop, but I don't see how much more portable it really is.

I got mine primarily to surf on - my pc is old and very very slow, my tablet takes about a minute to start up if that.
and does what I need to do, I didn't really need a replacement pc that takes up a lot of room.

I feel tablets are most useful for media consumption. I have an iPad mini and an LG G Pad x8.3. I know, basically the same size, long story. But, they are great for on the go media consumption. I plan on picking up the newest iPad Air also.

While I exclusively use Android phones, in my experience, Apple does tablets better. I've had 3 different android tablets, and, the two older devices became very bogged down and laggy after a year. I have the first generation iPad mini, and it still works great.

I still have a Nexus 7 that I bought a nice dock for. It's now my alarm clock. Looks kind of cool on my nightstand.
