I downloaded the user manual, but I want to move it from the 'downloads' to a permanent folder. I have no idea how to do this. I read the manual but no help.
If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Your home screen (one of the 5 main screens), you should see an app called File Manager (something like this), if not there will definitely be in the app drawer.

Locate the file, in your case the manual, select it, should have check mark by it, then at top you'll have some basic commands, copy/cut/delete etc.
Simply cut it and paste it in your desired folder of choice.

I want to paste it to my homepage so I can find it quickly. There is no option to add a file (or a shortcut to the file) on to my home page.

You can do that too. Files can be placed on home screens.

Start by downloading this file manager, called Astro:

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ps/details?id=com.metago.astro&token=oX9A4SKx

Open it just to get a feel of the app as it has a different setup than the Asus file manager app, however it does have a section to bring up all the documents or pictures or music like the file manager we have. Now you can back out of it by hitting the home button on the bottom left to go back to the home screen.

Then, just like you would add a widget to your home screen, open the app drawer, and select widgets at the top.
Locate Astro and long press it.
After you do so, it will take you into astro so that you can select the file you want to have on your home screen, works with anything, a pdf, jpg, etc.

Hope that helps.

Thanks I will try that. But I am really surprised that a $600 tablet can't do that without a third-party app! Wow.

You don't need a 3rd party app.
Asus has a file manager app and it works great and also you need this app when you install SD cards into the tablet or Keyboard to eject them. Same goes if you use a full size hard drive or flash drive in the keyboard USB port.

You can find the app in the applications list it is called File Manager and the app icon is a gold folder with the numbers 12-5 on it

If you have any questions just let me know.
Good luck!

Yes I know that there is a 'File Manager' on the Asus infinity. I use it to access the downloaded file. But I want to move the file from the download folder to my home screen, or at least make a shortcut on my home screen. I can use 'cut' or 'copy' from the file manager screen(s), but there is no option to 'paste' anywhere on the home screen. No way to do it.

You have the ability to move the file to a permanent folder such as your documents folder using the "File Manager" but I am unsure if you have the ability to make a shortcut on the desktop of the file. I will have to do some research on this to see what the best way to make shortcuts to the home screen.

just a thought and not trying to sound like a jerk, but just bringing reality to the table,

if I'm not mistaken, I don't think this feature, of being able to place an individual file (word doc, picture, sound, video etc) even exists from the more expensive tablet made by the fruit co.

in iOS, your home screen(s) = your app drawer, (every app you d/l gets added to your homescreen, and files are not included)

hopefully it worked out for you ok with Astro app, and if not, let me know. I keep an excel file of my running log on one of my main screens, helps a lot.

c0010ne what are you referring to? Trying to say that a tablet isn't a laptop? We all know that. But since you can long-press an app and it will place it on your home screen, it would be nice to do the same with a file. What's placed on the home screen is basically a shortcut to the actual app. If you drag this 'shortcut' off the home screen with a long-press and drag to 'delete X' at the top of the screen, it's gone, but the original app is still in the apps folder. So that makes it act pretty much as a shortcut. So being able to do the same with a file would be helpful.

Like an earlier poster said, get ASTRO and you're good to go. Who cares if it's not a stock app? That's why android is awesome. Lots of good choices.

If you look in the My Library is it there? If so just long press on My Library and a short cut to that app will appear on your homescreen. It is just like a folder. If it is not there use file manager to copy and paste into you documents folder and it should show up in your library.
