Just got my EVO from a Palm Pre

Welcome to Android Community, its better here. I also came from Treo 650 --> BB 8703e --> Pre --> HTC Hero --> HTC Evo <-- The final stop, till next year.

WELCOME TO THE LIGHT SIDE.

@OP you will never want a pre again after using the EVO. I can't believe I used that tiny screen for am entire year.

This x100! The EVO's form factor, screen size and much better battery life make it a no-brainer coming from the PRE.

Also came from the Pre.. i dont know how i did it for so long, i'm only on day 3 but loving it sooooo much more than the Pre..

I agree, already very glad that I switched after only 3 days. The pre hardware was just way too unreliable, 3 pre's in 1 year!

I'll be in this thread as well come the end of this month an so will my gf.

I don't think can sell my Pre though....again, love/hate relationship haha.

Welcome. I am also a former Pre owner/user. The Evo is an amazing piece of technology and it sure is a lot of fun. I loved my Pre, but the Evo is just plain amazing.

Posted from my Evo.

i had 7 pre's within 11 months, finally sprint told me they didnt reccommend sending me another one because of all my problems so i decided to have the moment sent as a replacement so when i got my evo i would be good with android, just got my evo thursday and i almost dont beileve how fast it is, sometimes i click on something and then a second later go to click on it again to realise that its already loaded what i clicked on and i didnt even noticed. also loving the screen size, couldnt be happier. however i would love to see what a pre would look like with a bigger screen maybe next year. i really liked webos but it was failing because of the slow hardware

Welcome to all those that came from WebOS :p

I converted my mother from her Palm Pre to the HTC Evo and she absolutely loves it

Had to teach and show her some tricks on her advance phone but she enjoys it much more than her Pre

Got an Evo 4G as a replacement for my Palm Pre through best buy's insurance program. After a 3 week wait they told me that apparently they couldn't fix it and offered me a phone of my choosing. I chose the Evo 4G and didn't have to pay a dime for it. Now I did get the buy back program. I know generally it's not worth it. but I am wanting the Evo 3D when it comes out, and for 30 bucks I basically can get $300 toward that phone. so it'll pay for itself, a good case and a screen protector. Of course I also have the option of keeping it as a back up phone and when I decide to upgrade from the 3D in 2 years I can then trade it in for $120 bucks.

So far my initial impressions are good. I do miss the webos UI, but I am picking up on some of the subtleties of app switching in android (I just wish all apps saved state). I did notice that you can switch to an app and then go back to the previous app simply by hitting the back button. I thought I would miss the keyboard, boy was I wrong.

Download Wave Launcher from the Android Market to give your new EVO a launch bar similar to the one your Pre had. You can put up to 12 favorite programs on it. This was the main feature I missed about my Pre and now it's on my EVO.

Just came from a Pre as well. My first one last from July 09 until January 09 when the phone portion stopped working. I had that one replaced with a refurb, but the slider came apart. I was due for an upgrade May 1st, so I didn't want to send in $100 for another Pre.

I ended up getting the EVO 4G and I'm loving it!! Still miss the feel of webOS, but I'm sure I'll get used to this.

Glad to be onboard!

Time to come out of the webOS closet for me too, I suppose. I also switched from a Pre. I was a launch day user (like so many of us here), and stubbornly refused to give up my webOS, going through 13 Pre handsets since launch. No, I was not rough on my phones, just hardware failure after hardware failure. I do miss some aspects of webOS, but DAMN is it nice to have a device that WORKS all the time. Anyone else spend time restarting the Evo on the first day, just to be thrilled by how fast it reboots? :D I loved my webOS, hated my Pre. I still plan on following webOS news, and may go back in a year if HP has gotten their mess together and stopped the "in the coming months/weeks" crap, but this device and the Andriod platform's versatility and utility will make that a tought choice. HP better get some compelling hardware on the market, and get some big league devs in their camp if they are going to convert us all back, methinks...

I just made the same move on Friday. All I can say is: "Ditto ^", except I had only 7 Pre's.

I wouldn't even bother to go that far. If you get nostalgic, just boot up your old pre (assuming it still works) and that will quickly remind you why you left webos in the first place. :p

I thought Ill miss cards alot, but its not bad at all.
I tried using my Pre delete some email. I kept hitting the "reply" to go back, instead of swiping :)
I unlearnt swiping pretty quickly.
I still love webOS though. but Ive gone through 6 of them in 2yrs :(
