Just got the official OTA

So I downloaded the update this morning and went to work. "Install update" was in the system tray. When I got home, I absent-mindedly cleared the tray. Now I can't find the update. Checking for update only says that my system is updated, though it's still at 4.4.4. Is there any way to get 5.0.1 back?

Same thing with me. I have had it downloaded now for days waiting for the "perfect" time to install and check it out, all the time ignoring it on the notification bar and about an hour or so ago it disappeared. It was there one minute and gone the next! I guess they pulled it for some reason? Or maybe punishing those who were reluctant to install it by deeming us undeserving and pulling it from our devices? Lol. seriously though anyone know what's going on with this?

Same here it was there now gone.

Thanks for the recommendation. However, when I looked at the recent comments, there were a distressing number of people who said it didn't work, and the developer apparently responded to no one, not even to people who had the paid version. That's a warning flag for me.

I use MyBackup. I'm rooted but the non rooted options are really good. I was a Helium user but I backed everything up to my computer and it didn't restore. Fortunately I'm OCD and had made like 80 different backups with different apps. I also sent them an email about restoring WiFi configurations. This was over a year ago and I still haven't heard back.

Maybe there was a time limit and your update was released to another user, like buying tickets. 😛

Maybe? I guess lucky me then. I wouldn't be installing it for a while even if i had it still available after some of the things I've read about lollipop.

I don't have the update yet and this is infuriating. This is a damn nexus device with no carrier tie ins to delay the update. This is worse than owning a verizon smartphone and waiting for an update (flashback to my webOS days). Suffice it to say this will likely be my last nexus device as the whole nexus concept has been a failure.

Got my update last week......I was hesitant to let it fly.....then I just said wth.....let it update. I wiped the partition cache before and after the update. So far no problems at all. I just do not like some of the UI as it seems they changed things for the sake of change to the new modern design....but some things are slower to do or take more touches/clicks to accomplish.

Also...HATE the new notification bar and settings menus. it is much snappier/faster in many regards. I also see the 3 animation settings were defaulted to 0 after the update. I had the kitkat settings there to be .5 on them.

Are you serious....comparing the Android 5 update to a Verizon phone update.....come on.....Verizon takes 6 months to a year to update things if it does.

But....dont fret......5.0 is not that special.....only different. Its not like having sex for the first time or anything. Your not really missing much at all.....and being upset because they had some minor problems with 5.0 and had to tweak then push the 5.01 weeks later is not that big of a deal. You did not loose out on anything but possible minor issues with getting 5.0 quicker.

I actually like the design of kitkat better.....though running Art with Lemon pie is slightly faster.

Gosh. I wish someone had told me the Nexus concept was a failure before I replaced my Galaxy Nexus with the N5 and bought an N7 (2013). 😒

Here's the bottom line.
There's no reason I have to wait for the update this long. Phones from lg Motorola and Samsung are already getting their updates.
What's the hold up?

Got tired of waiting for the OTA so I did a fresh install of 5.0.1 using the Nexus Root Toolkit. I backed up my apps & data first using MyBackup Root and then restored them into Lollipop. No problems so far after a day of use. Battery is still at 95% after 24 hrs of light use. GPS is fine. Wifi is fine.

Did the same thing a few weeks ago. I never got any Lollipop update on my Nexus 7 but mine and my parents Nexus 5's got the Lollipop update right away.

Strange!

Actually, another reason I decided not to wait for the OTA was that I had rooted the device and had read that, because of changes that Google had made to the OTA update process, "any" changes made to the system files from stock would actually prevent the OTA from installing.

I don't think you even get the notification if you are rooted.

According to Droid Life today, Google released a factory image for 5.0.2 for the Nexus 7 2013 WiFi. So that may be why many haven't gotten the 5.0.1 update. But commenters are saying this release doesn't fix the memory leak.

You could be right, but it's hard to tell as so many others have still not received the OTA. However, I don't think Google worries at all about rooting (unlike carrier devices), so I suspect I would have still been offered the OTA but it would probably have failed during the install.
