Just got the update.

The OTA is just the updated files, but the HTC download is everything (the old and new apps).

So would it be better to do the full update over the OTA update?

I did the OTA update because I didn't want my apps deleted (I have non-market apps). The HTC download wipes everything (this could be good if you had your phone for a while, to clean junk files). The Market and Amazon Appstore remember what apps you downloaded and can push them to you again.

if i rooted my phone do i have to downgrade first back to stock before i do this update??

Does anyone know if updating will have an impact on the rooting process? I haven't rooted yet, but I'm considering it and I just want to make sure that doing the OTA update will not prevent me from rooting later on.

attn1 has updated his Ace Hack Kit to version 12. This will allow you to root it even if you have installed the Gingerbread upgrade.

When I go to the wifi update it has the scheduled check box checked, should I uncheck that or leave it as is?

I got the notification earlier today while in a wifi-free area. Upon returning home, the first thing I did was popped my wifi on and went to check again. Now I am getting no updates found once again, does HTC need to push this out again and if so, how would I go about doing it?

I had the same thing happen to me. I had the option to download this morning, but didn't because I was going to be leaving my wifi area. I just got home and now it says the "no updates for your phone" bs.
wonder if they are giving time windows for people to download to keep traffic under control.

I'd like to get another window here soon... been waiting for a while for this update.

For those of you waiting why don't you just backup everything then download in from HTC.com and use sync to install it. That's what I did on the first day.

Is it just me....but it seems like the battery doesn't last as long after the GB update  Any one else noticing this ??

cant answer that personally cuz im still flipping waiting for the OTA.

seems like its that whole "unknown source" update wait all over again. that took over 2 months to finally "show up" on my phone.

so guess i'll just wait forever yet again. mainly cause i dont want to have to re-do everything by going the manual route. too much headache and too time consuming.

The ATT unknown sources update was a push i.e. the carrier had to send it to the phone. The OTA update is a pull, you hit the WiFi update and hope the download window is open. Likely after a week it will "always" be open for download.

Note you will have to enter some settings again after the OTA update (I had to re-enter the Appstore and Kindle logins) and get another license for Swype.
