Just moved from Droid inc to fascinate- on the DINC we have something called bump charging where you charge to 100% then shut off phone and the ncharge until green and turn on phone and do for a few cycles. That would help battery life

Do I need to do that for Fascinate and if not are there some simple tricks besides adjusting settings that I need to be aware of
please advise Forum buds

By far, the biggest thing you can do to improve battery life is remove some of Verizon's bloatware they installed on the phone - things like Skype Mobile (which is actually a total scam, since it doesn't actually do VOIP, it just makes cellular calls which you get billed for), CityID and others that run in the background all the time. To do that, you do need to root the phone, unfortunately.

Removing bloat improved my battery life from about 10 hours to upwards of 30+ hours. From there, you can install an optimized kernel for even more improvement. I'm now getting a solid 48 hours, and upwards of 3 full days if I'm not using the phone excessively.

Not sure about the bump charge. It might help, and there's nothing stopping you from doing it on this phone, but it could also do nothing at all. Sometimes it seems like everyone and their uncle has an elaborate charging theory to improve battery life, when all the manufacturer ever says is "avoid letting it totally die or over charge". I've always followed that simple rule and all my batteries seem to last forever.

In the rooting sub forum, check out the posts on the top of the forum. You'll find posts on how to root and what apps are safe to remove.

Chris, how do you optimize all of that stuff?

For removing bloatware, check out this thread in the ROMs/Hacks forum. It gives a pretty good list on what's safe to remove. In addition to what's here, I've removed anything Bluetooth related since I don't use any bluetooth accessories, and I've removed any DRM (Digital Rights Management), since I don't purchase any rights managed media on the phone.

As far as the kernel goes, it depends on what version you're on - if you've upgraded to Verizon's latest DL09 revision, you'll need a DL09 based kernel, if you're still on DI01, you'll need a DI01 kernel. Check out the ROMs/Hacks forum for info there, but in general, you can find pretty much all the available kernels in ROM Manager.
