Just received my Photon 4G!

All what do I need to know which processors better and faster! The Tegra2 on the PHOTON or the Snapdragon on the EVO 3D? Am not asking which iis better phone.

Here is a snip from another forum here.

so basically the G2X is where this phone will land. The Atrix was not that great, but from other benchmarks on the net the photon runs around the same as the G2X.

Actually no, unless sprint has changed their world phone setup in the past 2 years, Sprint phones come with a unbranded GSM SIM Card for International Roaming outside North America. Now I did not own a world phone, a friend did and that may ruin my credibility here but i am 99.999% sure they come with SIM card in a LOCKED sim card slot

closest picture i could find is CNET for the tour. http://reviews.cnet.com/sc/33686230-2-300-DT3.jpg

It is highly likely the phone will be locked and you cannot use a prepaid SIM card unless you get the phone unlocked somehow. Sprint has its own GSM SIM Card pricing plan as well
Traveling Internationally

What? If I can't just put a pre paid sim card in the Photon, then I won't use it overseas. Don't want to pay roaming charges in the UK.

Two Sprint reps came to visit my job yesterday as we have a relationship with them and they visit about quarterly to make sales pitches and such. Anyway, I talked to a rep who's also the local retail store manager, told him I planned to get the Photon, and asked him about SIM locking. He told me that the Photon will come locked to Sprint's (roaming) SIM card but that to activate International use/unlock SIM slot, you have to call, because you have to acknowledge what having an unlocked SIM slot or using their GSM roaming entails, and talking to you is the way Sprint likes to try and establish that you claim to fully understand the potential costs. He said that otherwise, some people get mistaken and call Sprint irate about either

1) the International GSM roaming charges that are associated with using Sprint's SIM, and can show up up to two billing cycles after use on Sprint's SIM, unlike your typical overages which'd show up on the same cycle as use
-or-
2) a misplaced belief that because they've plopped in their own SIM, and maybe don't even use the phone in the U.S. at all for a given billing cycle, they're no longer bound to Sprint's contracted monthly (CDMA service) plan costs

He pointed out that the second point was of course moot if you're buying unsubsidized and aren't under contract.

So, in short, the SIM WILL PROBABLY BE locked upon purchase, but all it takes a phone call to Sprint and a brief listen to terms and conditions for you to get an unlock. There are no waiting periods or anything like that.

I'll be very interested to see how call quality and reception of the Photon compare to the Evo3D. The 3D is an amazing phone but the call quality issue is quite annoying. I've already changed the vocoder settings, which helped...but I'm still looking for more.

I have read that the call quality is excellent and the both the earpiece and speaker phone is very loud, but very clear. My brand new Evo 4G doesn't sound clear, it sounds like it is vibrating.

sorry i havent posted much on here, but if you want you can check out my thread on AndroidForums.com in the Photon section. i have been posting on there since i bought the phone in their marketplace. but check it out for more pics and a video!

Thanks! I look forward to checking it all out.

I just wanted to say thanks for posting all of this great information here and elsewhere. You've certainly managed to get people excited about the Photon, that's for sure.

I am really thinking about this Phone or the samsung epic 2 how does it feel in your hands good build quality ? I hate the apples iPhone and os but I love the way it feels in my hand feel solid and so on?

It takes about 3 minutes to have it unlocked by Sprint (assuming it's the same way as the BB9630).

I read somwhere that Motorola threatened to put thr OP in jail if he didn't return the Photon!

Hope they didn't kick the poor guys door in too! (Ala Apple) ;-)

I read that too. I can understand that motorola wants their device back, but he really convinced alot of people to get the photon. I'm now 100% sure that I want a photon and I will get one day one. I was going to wait for reviews from tech sites, but his posts sealed the deal. Hope motorola is nice and gives him a photon for all the free publicity and positive press!

Netflix works on the photon and so does google video chat! thanks op!

To the op: thanks for everything, hope you didn't go to jail!

I am still around. Motorola did call me and threaten to put me in jail if I didn't send it back. They also told me that they couldn't give me a free photon since I unlawfully bought the other photon. I still have the phone, but ill be sending it back tomorrow. I'm still posting over on AF and answering questions. Chime in if you'd like!

do you get your money back?

I think we should all email Motorola and tell them how much they OWE shawheim for what he's done, I for one got the Evo 3D on premier launch and after seeing all his threads he has convinced me to get this phone! I actually can't wait for this phone! Been with HTC for SO LONG now time for a change, although I will keep my 3D and if the Photon is what I think it'll be I'll just end up selling the 3D.
