Just rooted - first impressions

Would you guys say the Nook is worth buying just for rooting? I honestly have minimal interest in reading, I've been holding off on the Galaxy Tab because I don't really need a 3G plan on a tablet...

That's the whole reason I bought it, personally. Plus, it's a great full-color comics reader if you do that sort of thing, too.

This is the exact[/] reason I got mine.

On a different note: thanks to anyone who posted about using Zeam instead of launcher pro. I was looking for ADW Launcher but couldn't find the free one on the market.

I picked mine up on Craigslist for $175, used but still in box with everything including receipt. I bought it just for rooting. Can't wait for Froyo com hit.

Now that I've pakyed with Zeam for a bit i'm curious if there is a way to change highlight colors; so things are say blue instead of that orange-yellow color that is stock Android

Just rooted and ... ?

1. Just rooted my Vibrant. Must be rooted, since I now have a "Superuser Permissions" app. When I open it, tho, nothing shows. Any ideas?
2. Bought and installed Titanium Backup Pro, but it doesn't show in my apps. When I try running it via AppBrain, it returns a "not executable" message. Can't figure out how to give it permission.
3. Any links to how to uninstall bloatware?
Thanks from a relative noob.

First, you are posting this in completely the wrong place. This forum is for the Nook Color.

You need to download the free Titanium Backup app. Titanium Backup Pro isn't an app, that's why you can't open it. It's just a key that unlocks some additional features that you normally can't access in the free version.

To make a long story short, Android already regulates it's own processes to keep system resources open and available for when you start up a different app. Adding another chef (App Killer) to a kitchen that is already running smoothly just makes things go haywire
What about things like e-mail, browsers and other apps that use data? The only reason I've used an "app killer" (task manager in my case) is so I can stop apps I've closed but still run (like Firefox, Opera, Weather Channel, Banking and such). How else can I stop these apps once I'm finished (as there is no "exit" option on any of them). Data packages can be eaten up quickly by these apps running when not in use.

Sorry if this is a "noob" question. :o

ClockwordMod is partially working, according to the folks over at XDA. We may be able to make full Nandroid backups soon!

Once rooted it's a $250 Android tablet. I love it. I can do everything on it. I have it setup just like my EVO. I read everything I want with the Kindle app. Kind of funny using the kindle app on it's competitor. But anyway, I wasn't sure about getting it, wasn't sure about the emails, browser, laggyness, and so on, but this thing is freakin' sweet.

soooooo...now with word of more android tablets coming out...would u wait on buying the NC right now?

If you think you need to wait because something better might be coming out, you won't ever want to buy one. If you want a NC, just go buy one. If something you like better comes along, buy it and sell the NC.

Sure, CES is coming up and there will probably be some new tablets announced, but who knows when they will make it to stores so you can actually buy one. If new tablets are announced, one thing is pretty certain....They will probably cost much more than $250.

When the tablet I want comes out, I'll buy it, and my wife then inherits my NookColor.. Win Win.. She's already wanting to get rid of her Nook and get a Nook Color.

Oh i realize that. And the only reason i ask is bc of ces. I heard there might be cheaper tablets on the way and such so i didnt want to rush into anything. But if the tablets announced arent coming til spring anyway then its not worth the wait.

Just get it. You have 14 days to try it out and if you don't like it take it back. There is always something better coming out. I don't think you'll be disappointed by it.

oh i didnt realize that. is that just through BN though? i was going to purchase it through BestBuy. and i know it prob doesnt matter. i did mess around with it and i do like it even without root. im sure for $250 its well worth it. plus the 7'' seems like the perfect size for me. the ipad is too big.

Has anyone else tried Opera Mobile on this? Not Opera Mini, but Mobile. Its really really smooth& has a fast load. Renders pages better than Dolphin HD I think.

Hi all! After reading this great thread over the past few days, I was inspired to take the leap. I bought a nook color a couple days ago and rooted it last night. This is my first experience with android and I quite like it so far. BUT, the device has randomly rebooted at least 3 or 4 times in the 12 hours since rooting. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there anyhing I can do about it? Thanks in advance!
