Just sent a text to my dad and it was also recieved by someone in new york. Can someone explain?!

Talking with my dad in an ongoing conversation, answer his last question and a few minutes later i get a text from someone in new york asking who i am. I asked how they got my number and they relayed that they had just gotten a text containing the same information that I had just sent to my dad. Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing/phenomenon? I've honestly never heard of it before.

You never heard of dialing the right number but getting a wrong number? That's all that happened. You sent the text to your father's number, but it got misrouted in the system somewhere.

Yea, actually never experienced that nor heard of it. Unless someone else has a better answer, I guess that's what I'm going with for the time being.
