Key Backlight Issue

Just recently updated to Gingerbread and don't recall whether this issue was also occurring before the update...

When I am using my Pro in a dark room, the physical and capacitive button's backlight turns off after a very short period of time. I can't figure out how to get them to come back or remain on while the phone is in use. It becomes exceedingly frustrating when I cannot see exactly where the back or menu buttons are while surfing the interwebs in the dark.

And no, pushing a button on the physical keyboard or a capacitive button does NOT cause the backlight on these keys to turn back on.

Anyone know what the deal is?? Obviously a software flaw?

I think you are right as far as this being a flaw... I have had the same problem with mine since update and randomly comes on and off when in the dark. Does anyone know a fix?

I'm not sure this is a 2.3 issue as I've experienced this a couple times (i'm still on 2.2). Doesn't seem frequent but wasnt sure if I was doing something wrong at those times.

Is it affecting the LCD screen's blacklight as well? I would start by checking the In Pocket Detection setting at Settings>Display>In Pocket Detection. It's more likely that it's just a software issue with automatic brightness, though. If so, you should be able to fix it my unchecking Automatic Brightness at Settings>Display>Brightness. But then you just have to deal with it not changing at all. The best workaround I see is a power control app that lets you quickly adjust the brightness. I think the one that comes preloaded on this phone (Long press on Home Screen>Android Widgets>Power Control) handles this nicely.

I've noticed this happening too, i figured it was something i did to my phone physically since i'm pretty hard on it.

Nope, just the capacitive buttons and keyboard key's back light. Really odd... Definitely seems like a software bug.

I've had the same issue with my Pro ever since I got it. I think it's also a software issue that was never fixed, as I remember it occurring in Froyo as well as GB. It seems the light sensor is a little wacky.

I never had this problem on Froyo or GB initially but just today in fact, I have been having this exact problem. I enabled and then disabled In-Pocket detection to see if that would work but it didn't. I also downloaded an app called Keyboard Backlight Controller and it didn't seem to work either.

ive had the same problem...i just dont care...i usually use my phone in the light anyway so its not like i have issues seeing the keys...and if there is a problem ill just flip it to the virtual

same issue here. if i turn my lights on a little bit, the keyboard lights back up. this sucks. this phone has the worse software modifications ever. so many bugs on 2.2, and with 2.3, you get new defects along with a slow OS! Can't for the Nexus Prime or Galaxy SII.
