Something wacky going on with my beloved X. I press the space bar, a big aqua colored spacebar appears above mine, sort of hanging there, and then the whole keyboard area minimizes down like it was never opened.
Unistalled newer apps, cleaned cache, rebooted.
Same thing.
Any ideas??

No keyboard apps installed? landscape and portrait? switch from swype to standard keyboard our vice versa.

No keyboard apps that I knowingly installed. And, I set it to Swype for a second, then back to multi touch and it was normal for a little bit, then back to that weird spacebar problem.
I wonder if there is a keyboard app hidden?

A program keeping track of what your typing!! It's not doing to good job if it make the keyboard disappear. Lol
Does it do it when your in landscape?

The multi-touch stock keyboard has been a big headache for alot of users. It's either a preference of Swype or Gingerbread keyboard by Steve Lin from the market.

@ Big Crisco, Yea...the landscape mode works fine.
@ Jerseyboy.. "either a preference of Swype or Gingerbread keyboard by Steve Lin from the market."
I have that one Gingerbread keyboard by Steven Lin and was getting ready to make it default and then it says this warning when trying to make it default: "this input method maybe able to collect all the text you type including personal data like passwords and credit cards. It comes from the application Gingerbread keyboard." That shocked me using it.
Has everyone else used it? It's ok? What's the deal with that????

I was using it all the time and never had any worries. If your concerned about it stealing your credit card info and passwords, your fears are folly. The app is not going to steal all your info. It just learns the keystrokes as you enter it into sites and forms thats all. Its just like when your on your pc and entering info and you save form submissions or passwords. Plus this day in age, your private info really isn't private anymore if it is on the Internet. ;)

Yea, thanks. I went here and it explained the warning. I'm using it now and it works perfect.
I noticed you said past tense 'using'..Are you not suing it any longer?

This is going to be my first major complaint with Android, this keyboard issue. The keyboard is integral.
It's funny, I've had this same phone since it came out July 15th last year. Reinstalled the OS a couple of times and a fresh one with the GB update. Never had any problems. Don't have a lot of new apps.
Last thing I can remember doing was assigning pictures to contacts Fri night, then Sat am, woke up with all this mumbo jumbo. The stock keyboard became unusable for anything EXCEPT Google search box, and that worked perfect.
Also, I add that only within the past few days, immediatly before this started I guess, did I notice that you could long press a top row button to use a number. I had been doing that a lot and then this happened. Dunno if that is what cause it or not.

Using the Steve Lin one and it's working perfectly now. Only thing I miss is how the stock would suggest words to follow the words you just put in. It does suggest words for what you are spelling, but the stock one would suggest words to follow the ones you have typed.

Thank God for this post! My coma & period buttons on my droidx stock keyboard were freezing just about every time i used them and I was having to power off my phone or pull the battery to continue using my phone. Came to AC to see if I could find an issue & read this thread. I installed Steve Lin's paid version of gingerbread keyboard 2.3+ and No more issues!! Im so relieved! :D
