Keyboard interaction with Google Assistant

I always thought the reason for apps like Google Assistant was so you didn't have to type? Now it's just Chrome right? I have no need for any of these assistant apps although I do want to finally get one and try it out. I guess I am typing out of ignorance since I have yet to use one of these apps. But the reason why I have wanted one is because I would be able to interact with my phone without needing to type so I can be doing other things.

I'm glad a lot of people are happy for it. I guess I'll have to give Google Assistant a try and see what it's all about.

Yes and no. The voice is supposed to be the main drive but sometimes voice isn't the best. You can't always ask the phone stuff .. such as right now I'm in a waiting room at my dealship. I would feel odd asking it questions out loud :x.

Darnit, I wanted the feature of talking to the phone just to make it awkward for people around me, lol. A side note the spelling of awkward is well awkward.

Even when you have a real life assistant, you still end up emailing a lot back and forth. Plus, sometimes you don't want everyone around you to hear everything. You tell your phone "order flowers for my wife" and the idiots in the office say jokingly "what did you do this time?". Better to have the option to be discreet when needed

Well you can talk.. that's the default input. Keyboard is optional / second ;).

I can understand the need for being discreet. To me though adding a keyboard to the assistant is odd when you can just use chrome. I guess chrome is part of the assistant? I am going to download the google assistant now and play with it.

That is exactly why I am glad it is coming. It can be quite embarrassing asking your phone stupid questions while people are looking weird at you👀 Especially if you are in a loud environment and have to yell at the top of your lungsツ

... not to mention that if the voice recognition has anything like the accuracy of the autocorrect on my phone's keyboard, you're going to have to fix a significant portion of your text.

If you go to chrome and type something like "remind me to wash the dishes before mowing the lawn at 2 pm today" it gives you the option to set the reminder in Google now. I believe assistant and Google now are linked, correct? So, I agree...a bit of redundancy there. However, I will say that using assistant, for me, is the fastest way to do things like that because of how fast and easy it is to access directly from whatever you're currently doing on your phone. Personally, for whatever reason, I'm less inclined to fire up Google now vs Google Chrome, but much more inclined to do a quick search or reminder or whatever else through assistant than Google now or chrome. Opinions will differ, I'm sure, but you should definitely play with it and judge for yourself what you think about it after you've spent some time utilizing it throughout your daily routine for work or whatever else. It's pretty darn convenient as it is, and giving the option to not have to speak to it in awkward places is just a bonus.

I now have text input in Google Assistant. There is a little keyboard icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. You just tap on it any time you would like to use the keyboard. I have not played around with it much yet, but it is a nice and needed addition IMO.

I got the blue icon on the right corner earlier today, but no luck on the keyboard yet. For those that have it, can you check your Google play services and what version it is?

I don't think it makes a difference, but my Google Play services is 10.2.98.

This is a perfect scenario. Haha I'm not the only one.

m3lover1, did you ever get the keyboard? I'm still waiting and can't figure out a way to force it.
