Keyboard not swiping?

I picked up a Mini yesterday and am really liking it so far.

But the keyboard is very different from my Droid Razr. Swype just seems to create a jibberish of characters as I move across the screen. Keyboard has gestures enabled but doesn't seem to work very well. Is this a different keyboard?

Feeling dumb. Downloaded Swype and all is well again. I forgot the keyboard on my Razr was Swype. Still goofy the default Google keyboard doesn't seem to swipe.

Phone is a big hit with me so far though!

It turns out the issue was related to the Otterbox Defender case. I am a big fan of their cases and have always had them since I use my phone in dusty environments. Maybe because the screen protector is thicker but substantially more force is necessary when touching the screen than my old phone/case required. So while "swiping" my finger was not pressing hard enough and causing errors. Pressing harder works fine.
