Kies blocks other users on same computer

Anyone see this one. We have two users on the same w7x64 HP--call them A and B; both have new Verizon GS3's (one week old). (I wish B could be a "standard" user, but somewhere I read that this would not work with Kies? So both are now "administrators".) Just downloaded Kies from the Samsung site. Ok, here goes. User A powers up the computer and starts Kies. Everything works fine. Then we switch to user B, who tries to power up Kies ... but it hangs and will not start up. So we switch back to A and everything works fine. Not so when we go back to B. At this point we restart the computer and bring up user B. When user B comes online, just what, Kies starts up by itself? Everything works fine. So, we switch to user A, and you guessed, Kies hangs! I have tried every combination and the problem always occurs. Everything works ok on the computer. Any ideas ... besides restarting the computer each time we want to switch users with Kies.

Was there an option during Kies installation to choose from installing for "just this user", or for "all users" on this computer? I'm paraphrasing from memory the single or multi-user options that sometimes go along with Windows based installs. Not sure if installing for "all users" will help in this case, but it came to mind.

I haven't used Kies, so I'm not familiar with its operation, but it may be that Kies doesn't support multiple sessions at the same time. When you say that you 'switch' to user B (or A, whatever the case may be), are you logging out of the first user or merely doing a fast user switch? If the former, then that should work unless Kies is starting a service that doesn't get terminated when the first user logs out. If the latter, I wouldn't be surprised that it's not working - is the first user exiting the Kies application prior to the fast user switch? Have you tried looking in Task Manager to see if some remnant is still running?

Good point, Kies may be like some other consumer oriented applications that are not designed to support multiple active sessions. For the OP, it may be worth pinging Samsung support as your use case does not seem unreasonable, and is probably one approach that I would try as well if my system were shared.

I did a "Switch user" in w7. I'll try a "Log out" and get back. Even so, it should work.

Ok, here's the latest news!!! I just signed onto Kies and it did an update to itself. I then did a "log off" ... it worked! I then did a "switch user" ... it also worked! Voila, they fixed the problem ... thanks, Samsung!!!
