Kit Kat is starting to roll out today!

My wife got a system update on her '12 but I have not on my '13. I'll start worrying if I don't have it in a few days.

And like was rumored the launcher from the nexus 5 is NOT in the nexus 7 2013 update, no transparent nav bars or anything like on the N5...... That's.... A bummer

Here is someone on reddit that has it

http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1qi43d/i_just_got_android_44_kitkat_on_my_nexus_7/

This is what he say "I was hoping for a big visual change like the nexus 5. No transparent menu, status or even app drawer.

The only differences I notice are some of the icons and white status icons. The Google launcher isn't here either, swiping to the left doesn't reveal Google now. You also still can't delete home pages, still the default 5. Editing home page also isn't like the nexus 5, the widgets are still in the app drawer."

Get the download link?

What's your thoughts on the lack of the GE launcher Phil? Wonder if we can side load it..... Wonder why they are doing this, I thought nexus was about uniformity, this for me isn't a good sign for where Google are going in the future, unless there is a nexus 8 coming but i refuse to believe that

Can anyone confirm this?

The transparency thing is a setting in the SDK for API level 19. Apps can request it. I believe that Nova Launcher's Beta already does this (according to comments on Android Police). The stock launcher on the Nexus 7 is not the Google Experience launcher and does not make that request on this build. The stock launcher also does not have the new app drawer button, etc. I'm trying to ask my wife to install the Search and Launcher apks on 4.4 to see if everything works correctly, but she's not responding atm and I might have to do it when I get home.

I didn't get it on my N7 when is it coming

It will just appear, it's a staggered roll out, you will have it in the next day or so, I'm hoping they have new firmware with it also to save my borked nexus 7 from having to be rma'd

I read this as a fact not long after 4.4 was announced, but probably longer than I remember it, so I'm not surprised at all. I tried looking for where, but I can't seem to find it now. :/ Pretty sure it was on G+, or it could've been here. I need to start bookmarking things that are actually important and not just funny pictures of cats. Maybe someone else saw it too. I don't recall for sure, but I think it was said that some features were exclusive to the Nexus 5, like the widgets and swiping for Google Now and all that, as sort of an experiment, and depending on feedback might be implemented for other devices. It's possible that the "OK Google" from the home screen might be limited to the S800 and future chips with similar capabilities though.

Now I read this also and seen the same thing about it being a Nexus 5 exclusive, then I was told I was full of it by someone, and then they mentioned in the podcast this week that it wasn't a nexus 5 exclusive, but I know I read the exact same thing as you

Pretty sure we also said we were talking about the Nexus 4, not the Nexus 7. :p

Let me know when the bugs are dead and I will possibly think about installing. Until then I will continue to love my N7 as is.
