Kit kat update charging issue red X

On my s3, I am having the red x issue. I have also noticed some other things. My phone has showed that it was not charging on the icon but the LED shows it charging and it charged just fine without the red x. I have a wall/car combo charger that has dedicated 2.1amp and a dedicated 1amp usb port. On the 2.1amp side it did not want to charge. After fiddling with it i got it to show red x and sometimes charging. On the 1amp side it showed charging but was intermittent.

I'm seeing the same issue. The battery is actually changing, but the small indicator at the top of the status bar has a red X. The lock screen shows it is charging properly.

So this is really just a bug in the updated software, NOT the charger, USB cable, USB port, battery or other hardware.

Just moments before the update, I had no problems at all with all the same hardware, same cable, port, etc.

I actually never unplugged the phone throughout the upgrade.

After more testing and researching this and other forums.. I believe the red x represents low charging output to phone. Some phones show this as a notification and apparently instead of words this update shows the x. This means the phone is charging just not at an decent amp. I assume the SG3 is requiring more than .5 mAh. When I try charging with 1.0 mAh or 2.1 mAh there is no x and the phone charges normal or faster (on 2.1). This all includes external batteries..

I've noticed that even if the X shows up, My phone still charges. I'm only seeing the red X every now and then, mostly when the batter is discharging for less than 30 min. Haven't tested this, but my theory is the red x is just suggesting don't charge it until you really need to, like when the phone is dead or near dead.

I am having same issue of course. Just tested 4 ways of connecting in my car. With the enercell from Radioshack that I've been using for over a year now I get the red X. Then plugged my enercell 150W inverter into the car outlet. This inverter has 3 ways to connect. one is another DC socket. plus there is a USB connector and a regular AC type outlet. The DC socket gave me a red X. The USB connector using the same cable worked fine. and the AC plug I use in the house with the same cable as previously also worked fine. Not sure how to interpret but thought I'd share these results.

Having the same issue. I was on a road trip, and I noticed that despite being plugged into a Scosche reVOLT (2.1a), my S3 was losing charge. Eventually, the S3 died. Stopped at a Walgreens and purchased a cheap Energizer 1a (I had never used the Scosche before that day) and got the red X. Luckily, I had an external li-ion pack that still worked somehow. After getting it to about half way, I switched back to the Scosche which continued to not work. Samsung branded wall charger still works. I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Well, right now I'm under the impression that it is the firmware update and not the charger. I'll need to experiment to confirm. Some reviews of the Scosche say it doesn't work with the S5 leading me to believe it's the firmware.

This happened to me as well. When I plugged into a dual port 2A charger, battery indicator turned to a red x. I have a third party charging app on my phone and it showed the charge progress increasing and then it chimed when it was full. Has to be something with the firmware because the phone charged without issue.

I have had this happen one time. It happened a couple of days ago after I got home. My phone was at 44% so I plugged it into my car charger on the way home from work. There was no red X, but when I got home and later plugged it into the wall using both the cable and the charger that came with the phone, I had the red X. I unplugged the charger, rebooted the phone, plugged it back in and it was fine and hasn't happened since.

Just trying to add more info to the thread.

GS3 upgraded to KitKat.

I have several different chargers (home and car) and have used them all with two different GS3s.

I get the red X on all chargers but one: I have a work assigned blackberry (puke), but the USB charging cable for it, when connected to my laptop, shows the black lightning bolt.

DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS? I THINK I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING THAT WAS MENTIONED IN THE THREAD AND IT IS NOT WORKING.. THIS IS SUPER FRUSTRATING! HELP

There is no fox for this. All it does is show the battery is being charged by a low amp charger. If you try a 1.0 or higher charger the red X goes away

Sent using my Verizon Turbo charged 64GB Ballistic Nylon phone unfortunately with a case on back
