Kitkat extra and reformat fix

I've been told that reformatting the extra card will once again allow read/write access. true?
On the G3, how do you reformat?

Fixed. See if it works now.

Thanks. It works now. But I'm not dealing with corrupt files and cards. Just kitkat restrictions about third party write access.
Does G3 have work around besides rooting?
