KitKat is Here for the Verizon Galaxy S3

I have found three annoying issues.

3. Messenger box in lock screen. This used to be optional, now you get a box no matter what. You can turn off "preview" but this also turns it off in your Notifications bar. I ended up downloading a different messenging app and changing the default to that one instead.

Discussing the GS4, from Need Some Help with Lock Screen Notifications ? Samsung GS4

"•You can download a root file browser like ES File Exploxer from the Play Store,
•Go to System -> App
•Rename: KeyguardWidget.apk to KeyguardWidget.apk.bak
•Reboot your device."

Would this carry over to the GS3 as well, both running Kitkat?

I tried this, I have ES File Explorer, but it wouldn't let me change the file name... probably b/c I am not rooted. But, I wonder what other implications are of doing this? Unfortunately I switched back to regular messaging app, the 3rd party one I was trying had some issues. I wish there was a formal way to give feedback to Google on issues and suggestions.

Biggest user of battery after upgrade to Kit Kat is now Android System - used to be the screen and that was understandable and fixable by turning down the brightness.

What do we do about cutting down Android system use? Battery life is BAD.

Hello,
Please hear me out. Before this update I could send emoji messages as SMS through text to my friend who has an iPhone (with the ios7 update). Although now that I have the update, when I go into messaging and input an emoji into the text, it converts my message into MMS. My problem is that my friend doesn't have data so she doesn't get anything when I send the messages with emojis. I still get her messages with emojis because I phones have emojis built into the SMS system or whatever. If at all possible what can I do to fix this problem (hopefully stop it from convertimg to MMS) and if not possible is there a way to get the last update and take off the one I just downloaded? Thanks A LOT.

Just downloaded 4.4.2 on my Verizon S3 and everything seems fine so far. Yeah, I see the white status bar thing, but that's about it. I did not get a red X when charging through my wall adapter. I'll check the one in my car later today.

Pull the battery a few times and that should resolve it. It did for me.

numerous camera, gallery, system hanging since update
Constantly have to reboot and constant hanging trying to access certain apps

I updated by accident about a month ago, and now I'm having an issue where when I'm listening to music with the stock player and headphones, the volume will randomly go down during playback. Verizon sent me a replacement phone that had 4.4.2 also, and now the replacement is doing the same thing... has anyone else had this issue after the update?

I also had problems with battery drain, as my phone only lasted less than a day in normal use when I got the update. I changed the background process limit to something other than standard in developer options, and battery seems to be normal again.

What did you put the limit on? I'm curious as to how the battery will be if I change this option, plus I don't want to mess anything up if I change it to drastically lol

I put it on two processes at most originally, but then set it to one. I think a Verizon rep suggested this to me, btw. The battery seems to be much better after that. The only downside to this solution is that whenever the phone turns off/restarts, the limit resets to standard, so I have to go back into settings and change it again. There's probably a better way :P
