Robert, I got an answer and followed the directions. The app works now. Here's what they told me to do:

Once you have registered an account, I would like to address the error your are receiving. I believe that a solution to this problem would be a complete refresh of the application. This process will be very similar to the one you followed when you tried to Force Stop the app.
To re-install the Kno Textbooks App, perform the steps listed below. Following this process will delete any PDFs you have.
1. Go to your Applications and open up Settings.
2. In Settings, tap Applications.
3. Now, tap Manage applications.
4. Tap on show All and find the Kno Textbooks App listed under "Textbooks."
5. Tap the app to display its information.
6. To reinstall the application, tap Clear data.
7. Tap the Home button to exit this menu, and then re-open the Kno Textbooks App.
8. Sign in with your account information.
