So I was using my phone rooted on Kit Kat 4.4.4

Now that I hear Lollipop 5.1.1 will be out soon, what I did is wipe my phone and install Lollipop 5.0.1 (not rooted)

Now my Knox status is 0x1 and I don't care about warranty, but what I am concerned about, since the status is 0x1 which means void, will this mean that when I check for software updates it will never see a new OS update if it was available or would it?

When you restored did you use Odin to flash the factory firmware?if not, then yes, you won't be able to receive the official OTA. However, you can flash the factory ROM and update that way.

What I did was:

1) Wipe Cache Partition

2) Delete All User Data (Factory Restore)

3) Update to 5.0.1 by downloading the firmware from my carrier via Sammobile

4) After installation, shutdown phone and restart in the advanced mode

5) Wipe Cache Partition

6) Factory Restore / Delete all User data

Then I started my device again and set it up while it was on 5.0.1 unrooted

So now does the check for software update for OTA OS update really work or not?

KNOX Warranty is still 0x1

If you used Odin application to install the upgrade, then the system would have also installed the stock recovery. In that case your phone is now truly unrooted an will be able to get new updates.

Unfortunately Knox doesn't get reset just by installing stock ROM

Yeah when I checked my root status using an app called PhoneInfo+ it said my phone was unrooted.

So now my phone can receive OTA updates even though the KNOX Warranty is void 0x1?

Yes, you just can't get warranty service

Thanks a lot bro! I never used warranty on a phone EVER! Phone is protected by tampered glass and a Ballistic Rubber case that protects it from any fall :D

Cheers
