Hi. I have Android pie on a kyocera duraforce pro 2. When I launch the default camera app, the image always has the "pencil" effect in place. The effect icon shows over the image. Taking a picture in Auto does not reset the mode.

I tried deleting the cache and data but it always returns to this mode. What's the deal? Not seeing other posts about this bug.

Yes clear data and cache was the first thing I did. Force stop doesn't seem to do anything. I tried clearing cache/data in safe mode but no difference.

Its just the image in the viewfinder with the pencil effect applied. The small paint pallet icon is on the bottom right indicating an effect is being used. I can set it back to normal/default but on reopening the camera, pencil is applied again.

Do you ever notice "phantom" touches in other apps? Do you have a screen protector on? I'm wondering if the Camera app is immediately thinking that you tapped the pencil effect icon, but it's actually a phantom touch.

No screen protector. Interesting about phantom touching but changing effects is multi-step process. Resetting it to default does no undo it. Occasionally things happen spontaneously in other apps. Maybe the screen is a bit sensitive.

This is a weird one for sure. What happens if you go to Settings>Apps, select Camera there, and then tap Open? Same thing?

If you go to Camera settings under Camera app (3 bars on top left->other settings), there is an option for "Preserve last mode". Is that on or off? Does changing that help? Next to it there is also, Reset settings icon. Does that help?

Preserve last mode was on but turning it off doesn't help.

Are you always opening the camera from the homescreen app shortcut? If so, does the same thing happen if you open it from the App Drawer?

Think you found it! It's normal opened from app drawer. I always use the camera button.

I reset that programmable button and found the special effect startup was one of many choices. Reset it to auto and all is well!!!
