Lack of internal Storage Note 8

My phone shows that I only have 1.3 GB of free space out of 64 GB (62.7 used), but the category usage only adds up to roughly 45.2 GB. Where is the other 17.5 GB? In Oreo I believe the cache is automatically cleared, so what is it? Thanks

it's most likely the operating system.

and 44 gigs for apps, wow, I have about ten.

Have you installed any new apps recently? It could be a bad app or malware. Go through all of your apps and clear cache. If this doesn't clear it up, its possible that your internal storage is going bad, or the firmware is reporting erroneous info. You should take it to your carrier for testing.

If you are able, back up any photos and such, and do a factory reset, but don't restore from back up. As you reload apps, keep track of your storage after each reinstall.

App storage isn't accurate on Oreo for me, doesn't show app cache as using app storage.

For example my apps were showing 12.3Gb used, however Google Play Music had nearly 4Gb of music downloaded. I deleted that music, have more space on my phone, but app usage is still at 12.3Gb used.

Odds are a bunch of your apps have downloaded files and/or have cache that isn't showing up as app storage.

I don't think music is stored on the app. At least not with Android. You could download music and play on any music app. If it was cloud music, then that's saved there not the phone. For example I just downloaded one song from my Amazon cloud (bought in Amazon). It can now be played in Google Play Music. It'll show up under my phone's storage now and I can play it on any app. The other albums songs in Amazon do not show up under Google Play Music app.
