Lack of traffic here a harbinger N10 sales?

I love how everyone now loves the FPS on the back, in fact now it's nicely placed FPS on the back. When Samsung first put it there it was like that's the worst place, have to stretch to reach it. Now that everyone has adopted to the back, the front under screen is just horrible. Well, once you learn to do it, the front under screen is awesome, just have to learn a new way, just like we did with the back FPS.

Actually, when it was put back on the front briefly a few series ago I used the iris scanner more than I did the fps.

Many of those aren't features. I had a Note 9 and I have an S10. The in-display fingerprint sensor is more ideally placed in the S10. Literally just right in the display. It's the most natural position possible on a touch screen, if you're someone that uses your thumb to scroll/type like most.

I personally never used the iris scanner, so I won't comment on what kind of loss that is for those that use it.

What is the point of home button haptic feedback? Serious question. I had mine on the lowest setting possible. You can now double-tap anywhere on the screen to wake it. Much more useful and long overdue IMO. And you can even lift to wake, though I'm not fond of that setting and leave it off.

The lack of bezels make the holepunch display very much worth it to me. I'd never go back to bigger bezels.

Power button placement is something I get used to within a week. As a mobile tech enthusiast I switch phones often enough that I'm used to it being in different spots on different phones, but I understand I'm in the minority with this.

Only "features" the Note 10 is losing are microSD support and the headphone jack. The latter is quickly becoming a relic on every flagship, and the former is being compensated with much more base storage. Though, I understand why that's still a problem for some.

Security options, display, etc. are all upgrades and leaps forward IMO.

I agree with you on a few things, but I disagree with you about the fps. It's placement on the back has been far more natural than on the front. I pick my phone up and it's unlocked, that easy.

When Samsung last put the fps on the front I relied more on the iris scanner.

Instead, the 10 series has a more secure fps, albeit uncomfortably placed, and a insecure facial unlock. The 9 series has a secure fps and a secure facial unlock.

I'm not really big on the notch, but it is associated with the features that I have found useful that are being removed and if the punch is just a selfie cam, then it is just an annoying pock mark in my screen.

I am an early adopter. I am normally a first day kinda guy.

My Note 8 is so good that I had no reason to do a Note 9. There simply wasn't enough meat pn the bone.

The S10 would have been perfect technically but the lack of a pen is a deal breaker for my work.

So Note 10 it is. As eluded to before this is hardly a valid test group for market appetite. It will sell well. Lots of N8 people waited.

As for the list of "lost" features.... The number of people that used all (if more than one) of them is smaller than the number of people that give a crap about Bixby. And that's REALLY small. Slightly more than people that purchased a Dex stand (I got a free one, but nope! Never use it. No need but wireless Dex will be more usable)

Sadly, you are correct. It's why I have lost excitement about phones in the future. I like the Samsung ecosystem to an extent, I have finally gotten used to the issues with OneUI, but the direction of the new phones are disappointing.

I will just keep going with my Note 9 until I have no choice but to switch. You literally couldn't pay me to switch right now. I would just take the money, the phone, and upgrade to a bigger Note 9.

I have a Galaxy S7 Edge. The phone is completely paid off. I cannot remember the last time I had a phone that was paid in full. I am waiting for the Asus Zen fone 6 to hit the market. I want to see real world reviews and am very intrigued by the flip camera. I do not take many selfies so it shouldn't be a problem. The 5,000 mAH battery sounds good.

My last Note device was the 2. I think I paid $250 for it. Traded it in for a Droid Turbo 2 and paid $100 for that phone which was probably the greatest phone for the money I've ever had. I'm still on an S8+ which really wasn't worth the $480 I paid for it, but it is a nice phone. There is absolutely nothing the new phones bring that is worth another $500+ to the cost of the phone in my pocket. $1200 will buy a really nice laptop these days. I'm talking HP Spectre quality. There is simply no reason these phones should cost so much.

You're the voice of reason in my right ear. The voice of "I want it, take my money" is in my left ear and is usually a tad bit louder. This darn tech crap is a trap. The Tech Trap.

This. That's why I'm holding on to my handset for 3 years. The "advancements" are incremental, but the pricing is well ahead of that pace. $1,000 is an obscene amount for a cell phone. There's no reason a full featured smartphone can't stay current in the $400-$500 range. Evidence of that is all over the industry.

I couldn't agree more with what you are saying. Smartphone sales are rising to a ridiculous amount nowadays. I remember having trouble swallowing the $900 CAD pricetag for my Pixel 2... And now, $900 phones are a steal!

If you think high price is related to quality. It isn't necessarily. It's more related to profit margins. The phones which used to be cheaper brands are now more expensive because they know that can get the $$$

I completely agree. Just to give an example from years past in 2014 when contracts where still existing I bought an LG G2 and payed maybe $30, maybe even less. When carriers dumped contracts this phone was selling for $400 at a retail store!!!! At at that time is was already a 3-4 year old phone. So I heavily incline towards the idea it is all about profit and markup and also demand. People "need" to have a bleeding edge phone and that maybe good for a year or two.

Actually the real cost of the phone was in your contract and you paid a little every month. Phone companies just made you think you were paying $30 for the phone. They got called out and stopped doing that. If you went past 2 years, you were still paying that extra and that went into the pocket of the CEO. Now there's more clarity in billing.

I personally think the price of phones is the culprit to low sales. They are just getting to expensive to upgrade yearly IMO, for most.

If anything, I'll probably go with the note 10 pro and stay put for a couple years.

Bet you said that for the Note 9. lol. I said the same but here we go again... Another Note and another "I'll keep this for a while" lol

The jack is one of the areas that the Note 10 is expanding upon the negatives of the S10 series.

No iris scanner, led notification, jack, or microsd. Gimmicky power share feature, smaller battery on some devices, and changing the fps to a more uncomfortable position.

Aside from the internal improvements, I would have to describe the entire 10 line as a downgrade.

Wait they’re getting rid of microsd in the note?

Agreed. The smartphone market is one of the few that keep rising in price every year. There's no reason that the top end phone cannot slot into the same price point as the year before and continue year to year. Top end components usually slot into the same price every year as well while the previous year's components slide down a tier. So, I'm really not getting where the increase comes from every year. Maybe it's the screens? I kind of doubt it, though. I think they just raise the price because they can.
No way can a Note10+ be justified for $1100 while still using the same main camera sensor as the past 2 years. The additional sensors are more marketing selling points.

Note 9 8gb/512gb was 1299 Euro here so I'm sure the 12gb/1tb/5g Note 10 will be at least that, I got mine for 607 a few days ago so it really shows how big a premium you are paying to get latest and greatest at launch

Yes, if price is all you're looking at, then wait. I do the monthly payments, so I never really look at the full price, just the specs. Then upgrade with turning in my phone. Since resell is so low, leasing style works best for me on phones.

I did wait a few weeks because the way tmobile was doing things last year, but would have preordered the 9. I'm waiting to see what happens with the 10.

Well I'm not looking at price only but it is one thing to also consider , we don't get a leasing option where you hand in your old device but do get a discount if you re-sign when your contract is up every two years.
Samsung trade in is not offered here either so it's full whack one year and a carrier discount the next year if you want new every year and then whatever you can sell your old phone for yourself.

I don't look at price per sa.

At the flagship level it's a personal choice as I can afford any of the devices.

That said it must be worth it to me. And going back a long way the note range has proved to be the Swiss army knife I need it to be.

I definitely only buy a high end phone every other year. I still have the Note 8, which is working fine. I have to buy two phones (upgrade me and spouse), and will not do that every year. I don't really spend a grip of money on any frivolous "nice to have" except my phone. And since I am literally on my phone about 12 to 15 hours a day and use it for just about everything, I figure the ROI is pretty good from my perspective.

And I think I'll be happy for the front FPS. I never liked it on the back of the Note 8.
