Ladiez and Gentlemen : WE HAVE ROOT!

I actually wouldn't mind just running a stock Android OS. Don't get me wrong, I do like the Sense UI, but I had absolutely no problem running stock on my Motorola Droid. The only reason I upgraded to the Incredible was to get rid of the physical keyboard.

Yeah I know where you are coming from. From my end of things, I love Sense UI, but it's coming from a partial point of view because I have only used Sense UI phones (Eris/Incredible). So I would like to be able to try a vanilla O/S as well to see what all the gruff is about.

Choices that's one of the aspects that draw people to open source, and last time I checked this is the most closed "open source" I've seen in awhile. Let me have root, so the kernel and O/S work can begin!

This is my first Sense UI phone and really do like it but I just like having the ability to change the look of the phone. On my MOTO Droid I would flash a new rom once a week just to keep things new.

I have more fun just try new things and making changes to the phone. All the things I couldn't do with my BB.

Yeah there was quite a few things I couldn't do with my BB. This phone has been an awakening on what I need from a phone. And yes need not want....

yeah xda is getting absolutely insane over there lately. people think that they DESERVE what the devs give them for free ITS CRAZY! i have been a member over there for a while but i am more like a lurker because i simply just don't want to get into the inferno. hopefully we do get root for the incredible soon because i honestly can't stand having a phone that i know is capable of so much more then we can do with it now. like someone said in a earlier post on my droid i would flash a new ROM weekly just to keep things fresh and new. hopefully devs are not too far off from root now but i know for a fact that HTC loves to make their devices hard to crack ( look how long the eris took to root ). it will be a very good day in the android community when we get root for this great device

Agree. Sense is mostly eye candy to me and I would like to get rid of it. HTC should make that an easy option to turn it off and on but they don't.

Pdanet gives you free tethering now, you don't need root for that. The other stuff is just not ethical at all, doing things like that is what causes phone insurance prices to end up being higher and higher. I remember when insurance only cost $1.99 a month......grr.

What causes insurance to go higher is the insurance companies greed. They would like people to believe that costs will be low if they never actually us the insurance they pay for though. So congratulations on being duped.

I'm amazed by some of the comments over on xda and the "Entitled Gen" explains a lot of it. my oldest son is starting to sound like that (give me everything and don't ask for anything in return) and its driving me and my wife crazy.

Preach on brother...I have a 15 yr old boy.

First off you pay for the protection in case you need it. If everyone always reported their device had been stolen because they wanted a new phone then that's not good.....not talking about people using it because something actually happened, you know ethical something you must not know about.

Wow really. You really need to look more into things. The insurance company also has to cover the liability of anything that breaks while maintaining their profit margins to make owners and stock holders rights pay dividends. In the end people reporting things that aren't true causing them to push out more money meaning they have to make more to cover more.

It's people that think like you that cause prices like this to rise. Insurance companies make more money by bringing more people on board and the way to do that is to keep prices low, hence the auto insurance war that's been going on for a few years. Everybody isn't as corrupt as you think, maybe you should hang out with Jessie Ventura more, but then again he would probably be "out to get you" too....

So congratulations on being duped.

Guys/gals, while we don't mind good conversation just please try to be civil towards one another.

Thanks.

Indeed and I digress. Back on topic, has anyone gotten any additional word how close root is to happening? Or since I don't develop can anyone give a reason why it would take so long when the EVO already achieved it?

Maybe the title of this thread should be changed to "Ladiez and Gentlemen : WE GOT A HOAX OF ROOT!" lol.

The only reason the Evo got rooted is because when Sprint added their touches onto the Evo they left some security holes in it and they got EXTREMELY LUCKY! I was just talking to the people who actually rooted the Evo. They said it left HTC basically the same as the Droid Incred. but when Sprint did their twist on it they messed up. Hopefully root is not too far off on the Dinc. I know devs are working really really hard 24/7 on rooting it and they have been making progress. Shadowmite.com Blog that's their website and they post updates on rooting the Incredible. They don't post like every single little update but decent ones will be posted

Turn PBR off... costs of technology has gone up.... also, we do live in a capitalistic society... enough with the "greed" crap, they have ever right to make money

Thanks for the update. We're all looking forward to this.

Thanks borgey for the link it will give me something to follow besides xda. I really miss flashing a new rom every day :(

I really hope root is soon, I want to ditch Sense and use 2.2 asap. Sense UI is definitely not as good as the new default UI for 2.2.
