Lag fix

It is storage space. You can modify that,, I've gone back and re-run the lag fix using 512MB instead of 1GB. It adds a number of extra steps, and unless your comfortable running some commands in the shell, and editing the scripts, I'd just stick with 1GB.

I'll see what the feedback is, and maybe I can add some more description to these steps if people need it.

If anyone who knows what they're doing wants to change to 512, you need to ensure your entire /data directory (and sub-directories) are less than 512 obviously, and preferably much less to be safe. That size needs to be discovered pre-lag fix, so go remove the lagfix to find that info.

After that, it's just a matter of changing the bs=xxx value in the second line of the script from 1M to 512k . M=gig k=MB, look in the busybox man for more description.

i just did mine with 512Mb's

scores a 2285 now in Quadrant! WOW

Wow, thanks for reminding me to take that post down.

1 - If you don't need it, don't use lag fix
2 - You don't want to change the lag-fix size.

If you're going to modify your phone and risk bricking it, please read the entire thread.

Yeah, we changed it, and then I got confirmation that shrinking the file isn't the way to go, you want to make it larger. There are problems in doing that though, with the way the OS reports free space. Long story short, best to stick with 1GB if you want to play with the lagfix. It's easy to apply, and un-apply.

However, never, ever, ever, run it twice in a row. Always install, and uninstall.. never install, then install again. As long as you uninstall each time, you'll be fine.

Yes on froyo they use the JIT compiler which eliminates alot of useless machine code making it more efficient and able to run less commands to get more done. This makes the cpu more efficient and able to handle more and get higher linpack scores. If you want more info check out this write up

http://www.androidcentral.com/google-android-developer-explains-more-about-dalvik-and-jit-froyo

i personally have experienced the JIT optimizations on another handset and the difference was amazing! the LG Ally to be exact, there is a guy who is hacking away at the kernel and created a 2.1 compatible kernel that includes JIT and other tweaks.....it increased Linpack scores a bunch and not only that, the phone itself felt like it got an amazing boost all-around

see thread here

GNM_TURBO JIT + OC = 8+ mflops - Android Forums

i have since obviously ditched the Ally and now am in a Fascinate which is so much faster than the Ally even with the Velocity ROM, JIT kernel and an overclock....combined, so that just goes to show you can't always go by benchmark scores, even though the Ally was much quicker over stock with those tweaks, the Fascinate out of the box without tweaks was a ton faster already so JIT in 2.2 may not be as noticeable on the Fascinate

ok ..... i did read over the whole thread first.....didn't see anything jumping out at me that said anything bad would happen, i do see your mention about how the system reports free memory....but it wasn't very YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE IF YOU DO THIS kind of statement......might want to make that a little more obvious next time

at any rate i ran the unlagfixme batch file and all is back to normal just fine, thanks for the heads up afterwards? ;)

Right away when you get the phone run the update that was just pushed out by Verizon and Samsung. Then do the following using the tutorials already provided.

1. Root your Phone
2. Installed The Clockwork Mod Recovery
3. Make a Backup or your current State
4. Download One Click Lag Fix and Busybox Installer from the Market. Install them Both
5. Run the Busybox Installer App.
6. Run One Click Lag fix app.
a.Click Install Run EXT2 Tools
b.Click OneClickLagFix V1+ (Phone will reboot)
7. Reboot into recovery yourself and make a new backup.
8. Enjoy your lightning quick Samsung Fascinate.
Thanks dlongb13. I raise pitbulls on a side note. My bloodlines go back to the 1800's. I am going to try this. When it comes to computers I know what I am doing, its these smart phones that I am new to. I really needed a step by step for dummies. You can email me at braybull@yahoo.com. Then I can follow it step by step so as not to make a mistake. On another side not my friends all have I Phones, what do you think the Fasinate has that stands out of the I Phone? Also did you read Verizon is proceeding with Apple to start selling it either at the end of year or by Feb.

Please take this down its to buggy atm. Gives fC's and loops after uninstall just take it off forums until fixed

i can't remove lag fix -- get this error

Sweeeeeet!

Quadrant reporting 2305 on my Fascinate... :)

Trying to figure out how to get a screenshot... Wait. Lemme guess. "There's an app for that."

LOL

*EDIT*

Here it is! And to think that it was scoring around 880 BEFORE the lag fix. That's TERRIBLE.

This was an easy performance booster. Install was quick and easy. Went from about 840 to 2146. Cant say I notice any better performance other than from Quandrant since I didn't mess around with the phone too much before applying these updates.

Dude...

You rock. Just rooted and lagfix'd my Fascinate. 850 to 2206 in minutes on quadrant...no hardship required.

Slam-dunked my storage from 1.5 to 487MB though... I assume this is some sort of cache-file? Any way this could be successfully moved to the default 16GB sdcard?

Can't be moved to the SD card, and sorry to tell you, but that quadrant score is very superficial, and doesn't really mean anything. The voodoo fix is more of a true fix, whereas the lag fix you installed really only tricks the software and eats up your internal storage

I'm benchmarking in the low 600's to low 800's on the Samsung Fascinate, any ideas as to why this is?
