Lag while updating apps

Why does my Asus TF lag so badly when updating apps, and can I alter settings to allow me to dictate when apps ARE updated and NOT the other way round. 'I am Robot - NOT'. Thank you.

Because Asus used terribly cheap memory in these tablets which drags down the I/O performance and it's worst when updating apps.
Go into the Play Store, open Settings and turn off the auto update feature. Then only update when you have a number of them waiting and don't plan on using the tablet for a while.
Just make sure you don't have the "turn wifi off when sleeping" feature active... Settings > WiFi > tap 3 dots top right > Advanced
