Lagging because of too many text messages?

I imported my text messages from my iPhone. I have a 34,498 long text message conversation going on for a year or so with my girlfriend and it seems to be wreaking havoc on my phone. It freezes in the messaging app, the phone gets thrown into safe mode and all kinds of stuttering.

My curiosity? Why?

My two year old iPhone 4 has this 34k long text message + another 25k from other recipients and somehow that doesn't lag at all when messaging friends and family. Additionally when I want to delete a text message it takes literally, A SECOND. With this phone if I try and delete a text message I'll be lucky if it's done deleting a long conversation within an hour. AN ENTIRE HOUR.

How is it that a phone that is supposed to have more than five times the processing power struggling with such a trivial task?

Text messages of extreme size or amount of has been a problem before. Why I'm not sure aside from it eating up valuable system RAM. If your worried about losing this text message you can download and install SMS Backup & Restore from the Play Store and that can make a backup of your text messages for safe keeping. It also restores and does more advanced options like selective restore, delete to really manage your text messages.

At least if you did this option you can save the conversation and remove it from your phone to eliminate the problem.

I have no problem deleting the text messages. But like I said, deleting a modest sized text message takes an hour. A 34,000 text conversation isn't even possible apparently because the phone simply freezes and crashes into safe mode.

I also have the text messages backed up so that isn't a problem either.

Yeah I get what your saying. My wife had a few long conversations spanning over months with some friends from school and it took forever to delete them.

Lol 34k text convo lol jeez I won't even let mine get to over 300 or so because the messaging app will start going slow and I'm afraid the phone may start going slow as well. I think your best bet is to do the sms backup and a factory reset if the phone keeps freezing when you try and delete it

Yeah I kept the conversations just because its my girlfriend so it is one of those memory keep safes. I'm going to simply try and SMS delete over night and if that doesn't fix it I'll simply reset the phone to factory settings. It's just a little frustrating that I need to wipe my phone for a damned text message.

Is the app really coded that poorly?

Thats crazy dude!!! I know one time it took ten minutes to delete all of the text messages on my phone.. I think I let them pile up for about six months and my phone started acting real weird and I have an LG F6
