Laptop Identifies Moto G5 Plus as Portable Media Player

When I connected my G5 Plus to the laptop, I received no notification window. It shows up under Portable Devices as a Portable Media Player. As a result, when I try to open it, there's nothing there - no files, no pics, no videos. The driver is up to date. This has never happened with Samsung Galaxy. Any suggestions?

Go to LG Mobile Phone Support, download the driver, uninstall the one you have and install that one. (And make sure you have the phone set to file transfer-MTP in Settings, if there's no notification for USB. If there is, just tap it you may have to tap the notification that brings up] and change it there. The default is to just charge the phone - no files.)
