Can some of you mad flashers tell me what the latest gapps file is that seems to be working pretty well with JB?

Also...if I'm on ICS right now, and I'm about to try Euroshanks JB CM10, is my current bootloader OK, or do I have to install a newer one. If I need a newer one, where do I get it?

Thanks!

What about the bootloader question...

Is my ICS Bootloader OK (from Axiom CMPLX V1), or do I have to get a new one for JB? If I need a new one, where is it located?

As far as I know you should be fine with the ICS bootloader. I think I read that once you flash the jb bootloader you can not flash an ICS rom. Hang on and I'll get you a jb bootloader link

I've rooted, unlocked and installed many roms. But it never occurred to me to change the bootloader. Is there an advantage to switching from the stock ICS bootloader to a JB bootloader?

I think everyone was flashing the jb bootloader when the first jb ROMs came out because there was an issue with staying on the Google screen for more than ten minutes. Maybe someone else knows the real reason though

I've seen a somewhat measurable difference in boot time, but other than that, I like to make sure I enough of the "same" software as possible--e.g. ICS stuff with ICS stuff, JB stuff with JB stuff, etc.

Can I install the JB bootloader after I've installed a JB ROM (and run it for a few days)? I'm asking because if I'm not all that crazy about JB, I would go back to my ICS ROM. In that case, it would be easier if I was still running the ICS bootloader. If I like JB, I could install the JB bootloader after I figure that out...if that will work.

Yes. It's backwards compatible.

If you wanted to do it one session though, and you're installing a new rom, make sure to flash in this order:

  1. JB Bootloader
  2. ROM
  3. GAPPS (if applicable)

Hate to beat a dead horse, but...I've already decided that I'm keeping JB (Euroshank CM10). I've installed it and set everything up, having left my ICS bootloader. So now, can I download and flash the JB bootloader over the top of what I currently have, or do I have to start from scratch...flash the jb bootloader, re-flash the ROM/gapps?

Thanks

My apologies--I meant to answer that with the "yes, it's backwards compatible" remark. So yes, feel free :).

What about Radio? Do you have to flash a radio also?

Should've quoted this.

Are you on 4.0.4? With the FC## baseband? If so, those are the latest radios, so no need.

Normally, it's good practice to keep the bootloader and radio the same version (so 4.0.4 bootloader with 4.0.4 radios), but with JB we don't have that option (yet :)).

Yes I'm on 4.0.4 with fc04/fc05 baseband.. I'm a noob and I've been reading the different guides on rooting and flashing roms. Ive noticed that none of them mentioned anything about Radios..I think I'm finally ready.

A few bits about radios (which is all more or less covered in both my Don't Panic guide and zero neck's radio guide):

[NOTE]
  1. They are never included in/with roms.
  2. They come in two forms--a flashable zip (like we have available) and fastboot flashable images (we also have those).
  3. They only get released when Verizon releases an OTA, and even then they may not be available (e.g. the IMM76Q OTA does not have new radios).
  4. When the JB OTA is released, be rest assured that we will provide you guys with a new bootloader (if it's not the current JB one) and the new radios, probably in both forms listed above.
  5. You want to flash radios in a separate session in recovery, usually. This means that you flash your ROM and GAPPs first, then reboot, reboot back to recovery, and flash the radios. If you really wanted to flash them in the same session you could, and just like the JB Bootloader, you'd want to flash them first, before the ROM and GAPPs.
