Latest OTA rooted!

I am completely new to android

I read the instructions followed step by step and made it work. now what i would like to know is how do i test custom roms? and pick new roms to load?

can someone translate that post for noobs? LOL when he says "flash" I'm like how do I flash?

You take off all your clothes, put on an over coat, then go out and find a old lady. Face her and open your coat! :p

(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

Doesn't this method just downgrade you from the new OTA update to use the old root method? That seems to defeat the purpose of the update. My battery life is outstanding after the OTA and I don't want to lose that...

'ppreciate the help here guys. I'm on xda discussing what is almost assuredly an error on my part with this.

Cheers,

They didn't root the OTA.
Hoewever... and correct me if I'm wrong... they basically downgrade you and update you to the latest OTA with root... if that makes sense.

you can install the rooted version of the OTA, several can be found over at XDA

Finally had time to root my phone with new root method. Wow I do have a brain. Super easy if you have time on your hands.

Ok. So, once this is done and rooted, what specific software should I install for flashing and backing up and whatnot? I read about titanium and clockwork and whatnot... Once the root is done, what should I go with?

From what i have read, this doesn't downgrade you and let you then follow another root process. If you follow the method as listed, you will be fully rooted afterwards. You can then flash any custom image/recovery you'd like.

Here are the steps you need to follow, Credit to the awesome people at XDA

Awesome reference there, LJ. was reading SteelH's thread yesterday, didn't expect there will be some video tutorial. that's really great. Seems it's one more step than the old part1&part2 part, not mention about backup part. just have one concern here, what if that flash game webpage got banned or forcely deleted? maybe i just thought too much. good job, anyways.

I dont see any downgrade there in the video, actually.

Rom Manager is going to be a big one you want. And before you Root, unless you don't care about your settings, back up with Titanium Back up. Then go to the above link to pick your poison!

Its been addressed already, (luckily) some of folks at XDA had already begun to capture and re host the website, so as long as the exploit works we're golden.

Noob Needs Some Help

I'm new to Android and have spent hours on hours going through every step of this new Root following the video provided up to the point of rebooting and holding down the power and volume key. It seems to work fine and says it's loading...[pc36img.zip] and goes through loading the file, however then it says checking...[pc36img.zip] and after a few seconds goes back to the main screen. It never asks me to apply the update by pressing the down volume.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance

Just tried this and it worked great! I am a first time android owner and this was a breeze... now all i have to do is decide what rom i want to try to break!!!

Thanks again :)

I would try Damage Control 3.2.3 it is a great rom with a lot of options and it is a battery saver. I installed it yesterday afternoon and im going on over 15 hours charge with about 20% to spare. I think it will get me just about at 24 hours without a charge.:p

dont really understand why it cant be done locally, i mean, why cant be some local webpage to be visited, then it's should be all better, right?

doing this right now... so what method do we use to flash to different ROMs after this?

install clockwork, flash clockwork recovery using clockwork app, put favorite rom on sd card, flash favorite rom using clockwork.
