Launch day plans

Not super excited this time around. I think that's reflected in the forum as well. It used to be super active at this point in the pre-order period. Even just last year, there was more excitement. That's understandable, I think. Don't get me wrong, looking forward to getting my S20, but there's just a lot about the S10 that the S20 doesn't have, that I'm gonna hate giving up too.
I think the S20 and the camera setup is more exciting than S10 was year back. Can't even remember what was exciting about the S10s, probably just the hole punch screens?

S20 with the camera advancement, 120 Hz screen and 5G (yeah I know gimmick for now) definitely has lots more than what S10 had. Improvements from S9 to S10 was much minor than S10 to S20.

Thing is, I'm in the camp that cares about design and aesthetics more than most. That's partly why I'm not so excited. Design and color options are quite poor this time, as many have pointed out.

You're right that there are improvements. I'm most excited about the 120hz refresh rate. But I wouldn't necessarily agree that the upgrades are greater than they were from the S9 to the S10. The wide-angle lens alone is a huge improvement. For example if the S20 had its improved camera but no wide-angle, I'd take the S10's camera with its wide-angle in a heartbeat. You also had an overhauled design with super slim bezels, the hole-punch display, polished metal chassis, etc. Then there was PowerShare, which has been super useful for me. I've charged other people's phones, my Gear S3, and Galaxy Buds with that feature countless times. We also had the advent of the in-display fingerprint sensor. We had 1TB storage options, a ceramic back option, and a headphone jack. Pound-for-pound, I'd argue that the S10 was definitely a bigger upgrade from the S9 than the S20 is from the S10. I think sales numbers will ultimately reflect that. The S10 killed it in that regard.

I always do it the same.

Unbox, full charge, case it, power on, skip setup, check the screen with a gray background, reset, fresh install and setup.

Hi, what is the benefit of reset and fresh install? I've always switched with a backup, but I'm interested in fresh install this time. And what exactly are the steps for a fresh install? Thanks,

I'll be a first time Papa in a week. I'll be taking TONS of pictures of my new born son.

Not much just gives you opportunity to not install apps you don't need and start over from scratch and also if there are any messed up apps/settings they don't carry over. Only recommended if you are into cloud storage for your music, photos and any important thing you need. Personally don't rely on any local content so when I get a new phone I start fresh and go from there.

In order to start fresh during initial phone setup you just don't restore from backup when they ask you instead select start new/fresh or some wording like that.

5G is not a gimmick for me :D I just checked the map, both home & work (supposedly) have 5G coverage.

Ever since I was successfully able to restore an LG backup to a Samsung (S7 I think), I've always restored from backup. I start the backup when I'm on my way to pick up the new phone, then when I get to the store I delete accounts except for Samsung & the main Gmail account. While the guy gets my new phone, I remove the SD card, delete the last accounts & do a factory reset. After I get the new phone, I restore, set up the main Gmail & Samsung accounts & play around while still in the store. After I get home, I really put it through its paces (additional setup, play a couple of games, even make a voice call or 2).

I usually take the day off and do a fresh install and just spend most of the afternoon playing around and trying any new features

I'm going to set mine up from scratch this time because I love hearing my wife gripe at me about having my head stuck in my phone

Someone said they will get it on their birthday. When will it ship? Early I hope.....
