So my waiting is almost over and my new X is waiting at home for me. I've read almost everthing I could and have a question. Will either Launcer Pro or ATK slow down the device or drain the battery. I've read conflicting things, and am not sure if I should download them.

I use both, launcher pro adds a snappier faster menus, atk has been nothing but good for me. I first made a few calls, some texts and emails. Then after seeing what apps those things use I unchecked them because I know they will just reopen, then it only closes apps im some with. Both have been great with no battery issues.

I read theat LP gets annoying b/c there are so many updates. How does it update? Do you have to look to do it manually or do you get a pop up or something like that?

I find launchpro is faster than stock. The sliding from screen to screen is smoother and the menu tray is very fluid.

Launcher Pro (I popped for the paid plus version after watching a youtube video on it) is awesome. Downloading it was the first thing I did after I activated the phone. I have no idea what the stock browser actually looks like. LP is smooth, fast and customizable.

After all I've read I'm very much against ATK. I think in the older Android phones it was great, but now the OS is so much better that it just causes problems (just my opinion). There are MANY threads on the Droid X page that talk about how somebodies phone is all of the sudden sluggish, or doing random reboots, then they remove ATK and all is well again. If you have battery issues, for my phone, rooting (used EasyRoot...it was easy) and then running SetCPU had a huge impact on my battery life. I almost always have 30 to 40% left at midnight when I plug it in.

I don't get this, I have never had an issue with ATK, also it does not bother you that any games or apps are just open when your not using them? lol that bugs me so much

That's one of the strangest things I've ever read. Yes, the developer is very active; he adds new features, improves performance, and squashes bugs with incredible efficiency. I think we've gotten a new (and useful) widget just about every week since the Plus version launched. I can't even comprehend being upset about a fast pace of innovation, but to each their own.

A LP update is just like any other market update; you see it when you check the market, you download it and it installs automagically.
